I... can't say as I feel sorry for you?

A lot of people who create fanworks are themselves in oppressed minorities, and it makes perfect sense to me that they'd want to be able to talk about that on their personal blogs.

I get really turned off when I see that someone I followed for fandom reasons posts anti-SJ stuff, because to me, it means they lack a certain amount of empathy or understanding for those in other circumstances, and because it hurts to see other women blanket bashing feminism-- you know, that thing that allowed us to vote and to not spend our fertile years barefoot and pregnant, and all that good stuff.

You don't have to be angry at all (white cismen or whatever) to want social equality. And I get that it hurts if you're scrolling through a blog and liking the things someone posts and feeling a rapport with them only to get hit with a statement like 'there are no good white people*', but the thing you have to remember is that those things come from a place of deep hurt and continued abuse, and as long as you don't contribute to that, and as long as you don't then reply to say 'WE'RE NOT ALL LIKE THAT, YOU KNOW', then they aren't actually talking about you, and you can let that go. And if it really bothers you, then don't follow them.

Heck, you don't have to follow ANYONE from your fandom if you don't want to, you can just check the tags! I'm not promising there won't be social justice in the posts and I don't want to, frankly. But it will 'save' you from the personal thoughts and feelings of the people whose fanworks you enjoy.

*replace with your socially privileged group of choice

What about the ones who come from a place of "I've decided to champion the cause of X group whether they like it or not and have given myself a licence to be an asshole to anyone who opposes me including members of X group who obviously hate themselves if they can't see that I'm doing good by being a prick to people on their behalf"

There's a lot of it about.

Oh. Oh gosh.

Okay, as a member of an X group whose cause has been 'championed' by assholes who know nothing about what we need or want, I'm one hundred percent more sympathetic.

(hope I wasn't like a huge asshole earlier!)

Eh. The one I see more is "everyone who opposes me is a member of Y group, and therefore their opinions are worthless and so are they". Even if they say they're a member of X group, they must be lying, because somehow these fine individuals can divine privilege status through the Internet. This means that they never have to deal with members of X group who disagree with them.

^^^^ This.

I know an aspie who reblogs a lot of autistic stuff and that's fine. Black trans dude wants to reblog related stuff? Utterly cool. White lady going off about how black woman shouldn't be allowed to do any BDSM kink scenes because they're not really kinky it's just internalized racism and misogyny making them think they enjoy kinky things? NONONO. Not enough nope in the world.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-07 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Please tell me that's an exaggeration and not an actual post. D:

It was an actual post. You can't make up stuff that crazy.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-07 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
*headtilt*

I can understand some black women not knowing certain kinks exist and/or aware that having these kinks is okay, because they're not in a community that's open about it... but INTERNALIZED RACISM AND MISOGYNY!?

+1

well said. especially your tip with the tags- don't like, don't follow.
I also scroll past SJ/heavy posts when I don't feel like it, but I also learnt a lot from the right sources.

I don't understand why people think that everyone who dislikes social justice posts is offended or upset by them. I don't get even remotely hurt about people hating on white people. I mean what a stupid thing to care about, that is not the problem with those posts.

It's that all they do is complain and play victim, and I feel like the result of that is making them feel like they're worse off than they are. SJW-style social justice is not empowering or beneficial in any way, it's just telling minorities that their lives suck and they should feel sad and angry about it. Fuck that. Fuck that so hard.

I'm not cis, but I sure as fuck don't want people going on and on about how awful it is when forms only have male or female options and how much non-binary people suffer because of that. Like no, actually, if you didn't have the emotional maturity of a 5 year old you'd realise it's a fucking minor inconvenience at most. "b-but erasure!" the SJWs cry. So fucking what? If you're part of a group that tiny then it's bordering on unreasonable to expect to be included in stuff like that. It's like getting upset because your university doesn't have an underwater hockey club, or that your country wasn't visible on a stylised world map in a Hollywood movie.

Sorry, that wasn't really directed at you, but your comment about how those posts might hurt made me think about this.
