Knowing tumblr, it's very possible that something you wrote just didn't jive with some crazy fan's headcanon so they flipped their shit. Or your fic got more reviews than their fic and they got pissed. Or you didn't represent their OTP to their liking.

I think you should repost your fic, OP. And maybe have a friend who's also a fan beta your work (not so much to correct things but to boost your confidence.)

I saw one person harassing somebody for their fandom theory by calling the OP all varitions of the word stupid and kept getting butthurt at the fact that a lot of people were agreeing with the OP.

Actually, that isn't a one time thing. This happens way too often on tumblr.

That's not beta reading.

If you want someone to beta your work, have someone beta it, corrections and input and all. All work will benefit from this. A fresh pair of eyes, a different perspective.

If you want a friend to fawn over your work and say they love it despite its flaws, that isn't what a beta's for at all.

If someone ripped into their work so badly, there's a chance that there were some flaws and the pace of their writing suggests that there's a very real possibility of this. The OP knows what type of ripping it got. It might have been content, it might have been everything else. Looking at what they picked on might be helpful and if any of what was grammar, sentence structure, storyline and whatever else, they should get a beta on board to help correct that so they can feel confident for improving their work, something to be proud of, and not just have a friend placate them.

Having a friend read it and tell them how much they love it, flaws and all, will not help in the long run. Suggesting they get someone do that is bad advice and why writers who only get their friends to check things over often fail to improve.

OP, you're better than just deleting your work because of one nasty comment. Take a step back, see if anything can be improved, improve it and give those scumbags nothing to whine about. Also, Tumblr is the cesspool of the internet, don't take anything you read there to heart.

I thought ninthlife meant that the OP would feel more confident posting a fic that had been beta'd by a friend (actually beta'd--more confident because it was better-written, perhaps), not that the friend should fawn over the work to make the OP feel more confident. (Hopefully that made sense; I'm tired!)

Lyndis is correct: that was exactly what I'd meant. Perhaps I should have been more clear?

Anyway, by friend I meant a "trusted person" who will be upfront with OP about some changes that could be made. A friend who is also a fan of the canon would be best since they could point out possible oversights specific to the characters or canon.

I'm guessing since only one person felt the need to bash OP's story publicly (on tumblr), the issue isn't solely with OP's actual work. This especially considering how much terribly written shit is posted on ff.net rarely receives any public ridicule. I feel like this is an instance where someone's butt was chafed by the story, not how it was written.
