F!S Anon Meme (the ??th)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with recaptchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

(Today's post is below.)

I want Tumblr to leave.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. It deserves a vacation. Maybe it'll send us a postcard.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, we should send it to Belize.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
i went to Belize once as a stop on a cruise, there wasn't anything to see except about 30 different guys sitting at various points around the city yelling "city tour!" also some dude with a monkey on a chain.

i assume however that outside of that tourist area it's probably nice.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear it's un-Belize-able!

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm telling case!

Oh god that laugh was good.

Bad jokes are the best jokes.

If Tumblr takes a vacation

(Anonymous) 2014-04-15 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
can it take Pinterest with it?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind it, but I do want a new fandom space to come along. Tumblr is fun for gifs and pics but I miss discussion and posts with comments and the more cohesive community that fandom used to have pre-tumblr (in my experience, at least).

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally agree with you, but in all honesty I think that sort of thing is going to have to be a non-internet platform. The internet/fandom got taken over by the cool table isn't so much for cohesive community and discussion anymore as it is sharing individual ideas quickly with lots of people. Which has a place, but for those of us who miss the sort of fandom you're talking about here, it's a bit lonely and confusing. I wish more people my age did book clubs, for instance, because I think that would be one really great platform.

ayrt

Sadly I think you're right, but I still hold on to that bit of hope that that sort of fandom will come back!

What would be cool is local viewing groups. Like a book club but for television shows. Like weekly fandom meetings!

...surely nothing could go wrong with such an idea.

My experience is the exact opposite of yours, tbh. I couldn't find the 'cohesive community' everybody praised LJ for, for any of my fandoms, and couldn't figure out how to navigate the site to save my life. I joined a few fandom-specific comma, and they all died; fandom-specific forums all turned out to be incredibly cliquey and unwelcoming. I only started to make friends and feel like I was actually part of a community when I joined tumblr, and I've been in two fandoms there now that fell that way. Maybe there really was a golden age of fandom community back when LJ still ruled the net, but if so, I personally wouldn't go back.

Exactly this.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
i love tumblr. i love making graphics and gifs. i love getting asks. i love tags.

however i apparently suck massive anus as making friends on it so i wouldn't be adverse to a new social media experience.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't. I like how easy it is to find discussion and pretty pictures. (Even if it's tricky responding to that discussion or interacting with another human being.)

But I want a new form of social media too. It's time.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't mind tumblr so much [I like the graphics, and some of the other stuff there] but...it would be nice to find something where it's easier to have large discussions/find people for one on one rp [yes, I'm *that* anon from today] that didn't have a bunch of people watching/getting involved when something went wrong in-character.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I want F!S to stop bashing Tumblr ;_;

Guys, guys, you're just as good/wanky/brilliant/terrible as each other!

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Will never happen. What else will f!s blame all problems on if they don't have tumblr or sj?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd rather it be a nebulous concept of a website with a giant userbase than a specific person or small community.

Though, I think most people here have a tumblr, so maybe we're just hypocrites or masochists.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-14 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
FWIW, I'm not so much bashing tumblr as I am commenting on how it's different from my own fandom nees. I prefer facebook over twitter, but I don't think one is better or worse than the other, I just feel Facebook suits my social media needs better. Same with LJ versus tumblr.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-14 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Srry, anon, but...well, frankly speaking, tumblr's existence, and the fact that it's the main fandom place right now, just made it impossible for me to be active in any fandom atm. I can't get the hang out of tumblr - I tried, but it generates too much spam, and it's just too diffcult to interact with people; I've always gravitated to discussions rather than pictures, so I'm basically fucked. And it's a horrible feeling. I don't know what to do with that; I have some real-life friends who from past fandoms, but my on-line fandom existance boils down to scrolling through tags on tumblr and reading fics on AO3, and that's it - I feel like someone has taken fandom away from me (after 16 years). I know it's ridiculous and I know that things do change, but, damn it, things have apparently changed to much and it makes me pathetically sad :( I went from mailing lists to forums to LJ, through all the ups and downs of fandom experience, and now I'm stuck at this unexpected stumbling block.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-14 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I will stop bashing Tumblr when they stop being a retarded cancerous shithole.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-14 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Same here.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-14 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Can I add Plurk to this?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-14 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
No one even uses plurk though, except roleplayers...
