I just genuinely like the show, and don't feel that the quality has fallen anywhere near as far people are saying. It entertains me, I have a nice little ship in Steroline, and overall I don't think it's a waste of an hour.

But the people that whine and moan and shriek about how bad the show has gotten are driving me nuts. I'm not interested in going into Tumblr fandom where there is probably a lot more positivity (just a little too overwhelming a prospect), but the least I would ask of other places is to stop clogging up every discussion with how much you hate the show. It gets so old, so fast.

My favorite thing about TWOP closing is that Cindy McLennen no longer has anywhere to act like she's being crucified while she writes up recaps.

Gossip Girl Question

I was only a casual viewer, but I was still surprised to hear the Dan/Blair relationship called a "debacle" and people acting like it was the worst thing GG ever did. I was under the impression that the ship actually had a decent amount of support at the time. Was anyone else on the ground in the GG fandom at the time to comment on whether that storyline really was so hated?

I know I'm hooked to a new fandom when I start having mpreg plot bunnies for it. I don't even like mpreg per se, I think it's a way to explore the 'verse's particularities and limits. Are there magic? mad science? aliens? weird fuckery?

This community has been such a literal life saver for me over the years. I've made some great friends through it and had a lot of fun. More fun than I ever thought I would way back in the start. But lately it seems to have taken a really negative turn and it seems it's causing more stress for me than stress relief. It makes me so sad because it's the only 'fandom' place that I'm anything other than a lurker, and I don't want things to change but they obviously are. I think I might have to just stop coming here alltogether because the negative impact is far outweighing the positive and I'm just sad about that.

tl;dr I hate that things have to change. I wish I still had fun at F!S but it seems that time has gone for me and I'm sad about leaving but think it's for the best.

There's a BNF in my fandom ship that was like THE go-to for fics, and then one day she decides she hates the fandom, the ship, and all her fic so she takes all her fic down. That's cool, it's her prerogative, whatever. She asks people not to share her fics if they have them saved. Again that's cool, and I thought the person blatantly going against her wishes deserved to be called out.

But at the same time the BNF is just SO high-handed, it's ridiculous. I've witnessed her and another member of fandom start a petty fight with yet another member of fandom and the whole thing was ridiculously juvenile. BNF's outlook on the fandom and its characters (particularly the main one) isn't the end-all be-all and acting like it is is insulting to everyone else who still actually likes the ship. The worst part is she's convinced another prominent member of fandom (who I thought was my friend) of the same thing and it really rubs me the wrong way.

I haven't said anything b/c I don't want to start the drama that BNF and all her acolytes will bring, but sometimes I just want to yell GET OVER YOURSELF!

I really hate when communities/websites just... disappear/close with no explanation, or worse, when the mods add smug, secretive, and/or like you're bothering them for asking. I get that RL happens, but when people have submitted fics or were discussing things in threads, is it really that hard to say "so sorry guys, this is what happened"? To ask someone else to take over? I know with the latter no one likes getting rid of their baby, but when it's obvious they're indifferent anyhow... why not?

Sometimes they do try, but no one either steps up to take it over, or they do for a short time and just do such a bad job of it the original owner shuts it down, or the user base leaves so it dies that way.

Usually brothers (because generally I like m/m best) but lately I've been shipping sisters too. (Not so much brother/sister though.) They have to be close in age, no weird power dynamics, and it has to be consensual. I've never thought too much of it because it's always been fictional characters but lately it's starting to spread to RPS and...that is not okay. I don't know how to just stop it though, it always seems to sneak up on me out of nowhere.

I used to love F!S but it's always on late in my time zone, so I can't participate most of the time these days. It used to be that I was staying up half the night and it severely impacted my mental/physical health. I've only been around a few times recently because it's the Easter break and I don't have to get up early in the mornings.

Nothing else to say, just venting. I'd love to be able to be a regular commenter here.

I miss the old days. True, the 2003 anime was full of plot holes but I liked it and I miss how the fandom was so much diverse at that time. There used to be so many different pairings! and now it has dwindled to almost nothing, and none I really like.

Was the fandom really that diverse? I always thought that it was pretty heavily focused on Ed/Roy, Ed/Al, and Ed/Envy on the slash side of things while there was Ed/Winry and Riza/Roy for het. More popular ships tthen a lot of fandoms but not that diverse.

I wish there were more Roy/Havoc, Hughes/Roy and Hughes/Havoc.

I love how much Queen Tammy (yes I will call her that forever) enjoys seeing her books so deeply analyzed, but I'm worried that he's gonna end up ruining her writing. Like, I'm scared she'll start thinking "idiot" and "dummy" are terrible words to use; that her books will start getting way too hot-button topic-oriented as opposed to character-oriented (which, to be fair, has been creeping into her writing already) that she will start making lists of exactly how many POCs or trans* people or portrayals of every different kind of sexualities she has to shoehorn into each book, that kind of thing.

I'm aware that this is a pretty irrational fear, but I still worry. (I also worry that she'll make Mark the inspiration for a character, which she has been known to do. )

Two non-tumblr/social media reasons fandom's less discussion oriented now

1. No collective hubbub of interests. For instance, when I was in the Harry Potter fandom , a lot of people were also into Buffy. Then the LOTR movies came out, and HP/LOTR tended to overlap. You also had the Star Wars prequel going on. Then Firefly came out, and that got people in the same circles talking. (This isn't to say everyone was into all of those things, though many eventually went towards one because of the other, like me with Harry Potter - Firefly - Buffy.)

Don't get me wrong, I realize people are still generally in the same interest circles if you will, but I'm talking things people get nutty about - they seem to come after people have already calmed down a bit from whatever was big last time, or they don't necessarily have the same sorts of fanbases in common.

(Of course, in the case of the HP fandom, the three year summer also helped. I really think if The Hunger Games had had a wider gap between books, it probably would have come close to that amount of obsession, at least.)

2. I feel like fandom lost its sense of fun. I remember when people used to do parodies and filks and stuff... nobody does that anymore. It's sad.

Am I the only one who not only got into fandom as a teen, but told their parents pretty soon after the fact?

In my case, it was because I shared a computer with my parents, and chances were they'd find the sites I was on or walk in on me anyway. So I told them. They were fine with it, but when they told other family members, they weren't so fine with it.

OTOH, I knew people who did, and I knew they did because their parents made them leave fandom forever. Which is kind of sad, but given that this was 2002, completely understandable. It's weird for me now though, because when my niece first got facebook I was horrified, and yet felt really hypocritical. But she was only twelve at the time, I was in high school, and I definitely didn't have my name and everything out there. I still don't.

Nyxelestia seems like an intelligent and nice person, but her posts are so self-righteous and passive-aggressively smug that I can't even read them anymore, especially because no one calls her on it. She's caring, but she does act like she knows everything, but sometimes she doesn't actually know what she's talking about.

I like Chard and find Noodly very boring. This community needs more posters like Chard, because a lot of people here need to be reminded that you can be female and nerdy and still have opinions that differ from the hive.

Dethtoll is one of my favorite posters, and I think it is stupid that so many people pick on him, but I also think if he didn't immediately respond to his trolls by lashing out, they would have gotten bored and moved on by now. D:

I don't understand why we have anon regulars. Why aren't they registered by now? It's so weird.
