Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with recaptchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.

I don't seem able to develop an interest in anything new. All the Marvel movies that have come out in recent years, any new TV shows... the fandoms seem so active and fun, but the things I grow intensely interested in are always old shows where the fandom is hardly active any more.

What is it you like about them? Do you enjoy something more when it's finished and you don't have to wait? Common theme? Maybe if you can find something they share you can search out something newer with that. There are SO many TV shows out there now...I doubt you can't find at least one to interest you.

Fandom slumps

I'm sitting here refreshing this thing over and over even though it's basically dead because I have nothing else to do. Actually I'm refreshing this then going to refresh tumblr and doing a back and forth. I have practically zero fandom friends right now and it's so god damn boring.

I understand why the younger segments of this fanbase are so over the top, but I'm really creeped about by the older portions of fandom. Lots of weird 20/30/40-somethings with a creepy obsession with trying to place college-age guys barely out of their teenage years into neat little boxes of sexuality and gender identity.

Tiny fandoms

I really wish my show (Homicide) had a bigger fandom. I ship Frank/Tim so damn hard and it's hard to write fanfiction about them when there's not a precedent.

What are tiny (microscopic or dead) fandoms you wish more people loved?

Bomb Girls. No chance of that now that the show is done. There are also a lot of anime fandoms that I wish would be revived. That major downside of new shows every season is that people move on so fast and fandoms die quickly.

Case is generally pretty damn good. I am more than impressed that he's kept to the f!s schedule and has done it everyday for like 7 years or so.

I don't like that he shuts down threads quickly, but he's pretty consistent about what he shuts down.

japanese fandom etiquette

allrgight so recently I got into this fandom for a "cult hit but still has a strong devoted fanbase" Japanese series and they're just fucking insane about hiding away their fanworks (especially anything borderline shippy - non R18 works get put in "secret" tags and names of characters are censored). Does anyone know why this is? It almost feels like self loathing for being a fujoshi. idk. I'm pretty sure the original creators do not have anything against fanworks, so there's really no requirement to keep things hidden.

I know it sounds sort of rude/insensitive, but I'm honestly just a lurker who doesn't interact with these people beyond rating/faving their work on pixiv. I'm mostly just frustrated since the fandom doesn't really exist among English speakers so I'm reliant on navigating this maze of unspoken rules to get my fix.

And I have no clue, tbh. I wish I could help. My anime fandoms on the Japanese side of things don't hide their porn. They just post it on pixiv, the blogs and wherever else they frequent.

Guilty pleasures in fandom

I'll never admit this to anyone non-anon because "ew creepy" etc. but, I like RPF.

I'm not entirely sure why I like it. I suppose I just find it fascinating. I'm always interested in behind-the-scenes stuff (I will watch all the blooper reels, interviews, DVD extras, absorb all the trivia whenever I get obsessed with something new) and the kind of RPF I like is about actors behind the scenes of whatever TV show or movie or whatever. In the same way I read genfic for more of what I liked in canon, I read RPF for fun speculations about what might have gone on behind the scenes.

I don't delude myself into thinking any of it is real. I don't see how its any different to films and novels based on the lives of historical figures, etc.

People who follow me because they like what I do and want to see more. Everyone complains about BNFs all the time but I have always wanted to be one, before tumblr it was on lj. Shipping woes

My small fandom has 4 pairings, excluding threesomes/foursomes.

I introduced myself as a fan of pairing #1, assigned myself a username based on that fact, and started (slowly) writing fic for that pairing.

The main fanfic hub features a lot of pairing #1 (mine), and #2. Little bit of Pairing #3. And I can count on one hand the number of stories in the entire fandom that feature Pairing #4. There are more stories that feature orgies than just pairing #4. People are constantly complaining about the lack of Pairing #4, and begging popular authors to write stuff.

I feel guilty for adding more of my pairing into the bucket, and not writing the sad, lonely, little Pairing #4... It's just, one of the characters, I can't see as sexual, and if I try to force it, it seems, well, forced. I'm so torn.

Based on a comment above - what are your favorite fanfiction exchange/prompt communities? I like comment_fic and of course, Yuletide. I don't know of too many others though; tumblr isn't a good platform for that kind of thing.

Aside from a few people sharing or some people knowing each other outside of here (maybe? idk for sure) for the most part we don't know anyone's actual name. Some people just 'seem' like they should have certain names to me, though. Sometimes it's related to their username in some way, but other times it's pretty random. Names I've mentally given people:

I wish female characters and het ships were more popular in my fandom. I don't care if there's already lots of het all over the place. That's no use to me at all because my brain only latches on to one specific fandom at any given time and there's just not enough of it there.
