F!S Anon Meme (the ??th)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with recaptchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

(Today's post is below.)

fs and modding

first off let's not have another awkward we love case thread.
second off let's not have a case is literally hitler thread either.

let's talk objectively about how fs is modded. do you think its fair? has it got better or worse recently? what do you think about troll threads?

Case is generally pretty damn good. I am more than impressed that he's kept to the f!s schedule and has done it everyday for like 7 years or so.

I don't like that he shuts down threads quickly, but he's pretty consistent about what he shuts down.

I think it's excellent and case has done a good job of finding a good mod balance. Keeps an eye on things and steps in when stuff gets out of control or over the top but generally lets the comm go freely. Also good about listening to people's comments and requests and while he doesn't do everything everyone asks he's very good at communicating openly about his decisions and thought process.

"while he doesn't do everything everyone asks he's very good at communicating openly about his decisions and thought process"

imo more mods need to take time to do this.

Yes, this is high up on what I like most about the modding here, plus the consistency of the decisions. (And actually, beyond the cuteness factor, it's helpful to me to see a mod's tone via icon.)

I like how it's modded. I'd agree it's entirely perfect, but I think it's got a good balance between what's allowed wank-wise and what isn't/what trolls are generally shut down.

*It's not

Sorry, didn't catch that when I posted it.

I think it's good. He doesn't come down too hard on threads preemptively and seems like the threads he freezes are pretty good choices to freeze. I really admire how regularly he posts the secrets. I think it's interesting that he doesn't participate in a lot of conversation because it reminds me of the Wizard in Wizard of Oz.

I wonder if he anon comments much.

If he does (or uses another name) it's a good idea. It stops it feeling too cliquey.

Wasn't the wizard revealed to not actually be doing any of the work?

the wizard was an asshole and a hypocrite

- someone who recently re-read the book and was very annoyed

That's a really cute mental image.

Yeah, probably not the best comparison to make since, as it was noted above, the Wizard was a fraud and I don't think Case is.

That said, yeah I'm pretty amazed at how regular Case is too.

Yeah, it is.

Troll threads can be a bit subjective imho... sometimes I think we're too quick to call "troll!" when it might not be one - it probably is most of the time, but I've learned to be careful about assumptions.

ia with calling troll to quickly. but then again, it is the internet, so a little caution isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Comments: Case is the most Neutral Good mod I've seen. It's a positive that he will respond to issues promptly, and the feedback of the community is taken into account. I think it would change the tone of the site if it was modded by a regular or someone invested in what they personally think F!S should be.

Secrets: The criteria for submission has gotten too narrow over the years. I'm not missing the I SHIP IT secrets or anything, but holy moly is it dumb to have to remember to add a THIS IS MY OPINION BTW.

I don't always like how early/quickly he freezes threads. Other than that, I think he does a great job. I'm impressed by how consistent, patient, fair, and reliable he is even after, what, 5+? years of running this comm.
