F!S Anon Meme (the ??th)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with recaptchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

(Today's post is below.)

what are they, exactly?

It's a pretentious name for French comics. You know, instead of calling them French comics, you call them bandes dessinées and it sounds cooler.

Manga gets its own name too. It works.

I'm not a big expert on comics, but manga always looked to me like it has its own distinctive style. French comics, on the other hand, look pretty much the same than any other European comic.

Yeah, and they all call them bandes dessinées. French BD, belgian BD etc. Bandes dessinées is the name for comics here. It's not that difficult to understand. It's a distinctive style too.

So why do you think that it's okay to use the French word for comics when you're speaking English instead of using the English word? Would you call a Spanish film "película" ("Yesterday I saw and Almodovar's película")? Hell no.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-14 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
because english isn't y first language and why would I use yours to describe something from MY culture. I don't call your comics american bandes dessinées. Neither do I call manga japanese bandes dessinées. Have some fucking respect for other cultures.

You don't have to be a dick about it.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-13 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
this is why everyone needs to get behind my campaign to begin referring to all graphic novels, comics, manga, etc as funnybooks

eliminate all this confusion, vote Renaming Comicbooks To Something Goofy And Silly Party 2014

(Anonymous) 2014-04-14 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, that's just what we call it here. It's no different than comics in the US or manga in Japan.
