F!S Anon Meme (the ??th)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with recaptchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

(Today's post is below.)

Reapersun, but only when she's doing stuff for Sherlock or Cumberbatch pieces. Fucking redpants and her sameface syndrome.

Lexxy is talented, but I wish I could get the art without the ego behind it.

swing_set13 is awful and flighty.

Slash Report is a myopic view of slash fandom, covering fandoms it's hosts have no clue about, and it suffers in quality for all the m/m focus. All those sjws who complain about white cock would have a field day here.

Mind going into detail about Slash Report and how the people running it are clueless? I'm curious but don't really have time to listen to a ton of podcasts to find out for myself.

Mklutz and Pru (rageprufrock) are the hosts, and while they can be on the ball with the older fandoms they are familiar with (Stargate, Merlin, SPN, etc.) and participated in, not so much with current shows or fandom trends. Little things like confusing kink memes and anon memes as hate memes that are out to get them, and the heteronormative lens that eliminates any realisation that fandom is not just straight girls (m/f being more romantic than m/m ofc. f/f? what is that?).

They will have a show about the video games, "which games are good for girls to play and aren't just mediocre sports games," and basically forego the entirety of video game fandom because neither is in video game fandom. At least they bring in a BL game fan and player for the topic of BL games, and they did rec Glitch.

A Teen Wolf episode in which it's actually a Sterek episode, and nobody actually watches the show but feels very qualified to speak as representatives of fandom as a whole already anyway.

It's the general authority that bothers me the most. A fan, or more than one, set up an email account for others to anonymously email questions. When people began to use the account to talk to each other, MK and Pru felt the need to tell them they shouldn't do so in case it becomes an anon meme. Since they are apparently mods of a fan-created email account by association.

They just bug me.

Aw, I like reapersun's general attitude even if I agree a bit about her Cumberbatch sameface. She comes across as kind, well-informed and positive. And her porn is often hot.

Don't get me wrong, she's way amiable and a good sport about her critics including those of where she works.

I actually appreciate that about Slashreport? Sometimes I disagree, or I'm really disappointed in them, but from trying other fandom podcasts I've realised that being accurate and representative is usually boring as shit. Either that or it's all silly "squee" and makes me feel about a billion years old.

Same. I think they could use some perspective, but I never expected them to "represent" fandom anyway. Even if it's an outsider or BNF opinion, they're fun to listen to. The guest season, which had episodes hosted by charmismaless fans, not so much.

What other fandom podcasts are there? I used to love Slashcast, but they're dead last I checked. Apparently Not Another Teen Wolf podcast (sp?) is good.

IDK if I can remember, it was a while ago. I think the one that made me feel old was called podslash?? and I tried fandomspotting but it was just listing off info I already knew, and the quality was all over the place.
I might try the Teen Wolf one if I can ever manage to watch the last two eps.

Funny you mention swing_set13. She beta read a fic of mine a few years ago. While she did help in some respects (including coming up with a non-cheesy title that I ended up using) there was something a bit off in her tone when we discussed the fic. It wasn't really condescending, but it really wasn't a good fit. I tend to favor canon divergence while she sticks with the canon material. I sensed a bit of inflexibility on er part, and it made revising the fic something of a challenge (and I usually like rewrites).
