Was the fic longer than 700 words? Because it annoys me that when an author who writes a long fic complains about getting kudos or faves but not reviews everyone's like "No one owes you a review!" but if someone writes a review the author now owes them a reply. They wrote a fic you liked, why should they owe you more than that?

it has nothing to do with "owing" anyone anything, though, it's about basic courtesy. if someone were to compliment you on your haircut, you wouldn't ignore them, would you? probably not, because that's rude. the polite thing to do is thank them.

If someone complimented me on my haircut, I'd say thank you.

If someone spent 700 words complimenting my haircut, I'd run as fast as humanly possible in the opposite direction, because that is the definition of overinvestment.

A novel is way more work than an haircut. Anyone who is weirded out about a small 700 word review has problems.
