You have almost every other movie ever produced to see the attractive male main character hooking up with the attractive female companion.

Anyways, congratulations to Marvel for their first movie with no love story.

Well, this is a spoiler I liked to read :)

What about Avengers?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-17 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Avengers was all about how much all of them loved Coulson.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-17 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I just saw it today and it didn't even occur to me that there was no love story until you mentioned it. I like romance, but I didn't miss it at all in this movie.

What about that scene with Steve and Peggy? :-P

I love their camaraderie ♥

They have great chemistry (and banter!), but I didn't take it as romantic chemistry. Cap did say he wanted a friend, and I think that's what he needed in WS. However...hey, they would be pretty together and they would definitely have an interesting relationship either way, so ship on.

I'm glad they didn't go there though. I'm glad Marvel didn't try to fit a love story (outside of Cap/Bucky sorry) into this film because there was already plenty going on and it probably would've felt out of place. If they do it later, alright, but it didn't have a place in this film.

I'm just glad Steve has more friends now. He was so damn lonely and sad and deserves more. I think he and Nat will be bff's from now on who always have each others backs and give each other advice and I think it's going to be awesome. They need to follow up on it.

I loved the connection between them, and I'm so happy for Steve that he's got friends, like you said.
Personally I like shipping them, but not sure I'd want to necessarily see it in movie canon right now. But yeah, a love story in Winter Soldier would have probably made the whole thing a mess.

Here's hoping for lots of Steve+Natasha in Avengers 2 c:

Yeaaaa, what Steve really needs is a close-knit group of buddies. Not that he can't or shouldn't have a romantic relationship as well, but I don't think he's in the right place for one right now either. He's only just coming to terms with his role in this decade and has a lot of personal issues to work through before he could be in a healthy relationship. (And even though I ship Steve/Bucky, god, Bucky would probably need years of therapy before he ever hooked up with someone.)

I'm down for them having more scenes together, though! Especially if they banter more. I'd love to see some short films of all the Avengers hanging out, watching movies and shooting the shit. More than anything I just want more interaction on a personal level between all the members.

My headcanon is that Steve's kind of got a massive hangup where it comes to romance, because he's still got the One That Got Away emotional residue from Peggy and it's like the worst case of rebound ever. So any potential partner of his has to deal with the spectre of the First Crush that he's trying to get over but isn't totally there yet.
I mean, in addition to all the other issues, haha.

So yeah, I'm 100% with you on him just needing some solid, stable friendships right now. And yeah, Bucky's a mess.
TBH that was my one small disappointment with Winter Soldier, that we didn't get just a bit more interacting, and more of Steve and Bucky instead of the constant action.

Agreed. A romance would have felt shoehorned in. Their relationship is awesome any way you interpret it.

I don't mind Steve/Natasha (though I actually think I liked it more before this movie). I'm usually all about friendship romances, but for me the movie was about the history of the Steve/Bucky friendship. The Steve/Natasha friendship is never and I don't want to see it as romance, at least not yet. There are great fics out there for the pairing, though.

While I don't ship it I absolutely loved their interactions and dynamic in WS and I really hope we get to see more of the Steve+Nat dynamic in later films. And hell I want more Steve+Nat+Sam interactions too because for me they all bounced off of each other so well(and it was nice seeing Steve have friends).

(I also want to see how things would work with Bucky thrown into the mix as well but that will be a long, long time coming(not least because of the metric-tonne of issues that he's going to have). But I wants it.)

I really liked that the movie started building a solid foundation for their friendship. I can see why people ship them. I think Steve would be good for Natasha and Natasha would help Steve loosen up a bit.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-17 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Probably not what you meant OP, but I'd go see these movie multiple times in theaters if they started doing more character interactions with the other major heroes, like if they started making movies where there were two major heroes in them, like a Hawkeye/Blackwidow, Thor/Cap, Iron Man/Hulk, etc. Unfortunately we might not get as many new heroes like Falcon, but it'd be nice to see them bond more as little groups and stuff.
elaminator: (Avengers: Thor/Cap)

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-04-17 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I want exactly that! More team-up films would be excellent. A Thor/Cap film...so help me, I'm not sure I could make it through that alive. WHERE WOULD MY EYES LOOK?!

So much blondness. So much bravery and human goodness.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-04-17 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I would love that, actually! Although I'd like to see more odd couples like Natasha and Steve. Thor and Bruce would be interesting, or watching Clint interact with someone who wasn't Natasha. There was just a lot of unexplored dynamics in The Avengers that I would really like to see play out.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2014-04-17 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's sorta what I meant by etc., thought I could have been more specific about that. Basically I'd kill for more movies where basically 2 or more avengers characters team up to kick ass, you can even include Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the mix to after Age of Ultron.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-17 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
That would be awesome.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-17 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I loved them as a team as well. I don't know that I shipped them, but I probably came closer to shipping them than anyone else in the movie (except Steve/Peggy - that was heartbreaking). I'm not feeling Steve/Sharon at all yet.
tenlittlebullets: (talk nerdy to me)

[personal profile] tenlittlebullets 2014-04-17 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Simple solution:

Canon keeps them as platonic no-hetero buddy-cop bros.

Fandom writes all the tasty, ridiculous tropefic that tends to spring up for m/m pairings with that dynamic.

Everybody wins.

I loved the friendship between Steve & Nat. I loved that they kept them platonic. I loved that Nat & Steve learned to truly trust each other. I want more Nat + Steve BFFery from now on.

I also loved the developing friendship between Steve & Sam! I just love Sam, man. I love Anthony Mackie. Never heard of him before this, but this was enough to make me adore the guy.

I'm not even going to talk about Bucky because I'll just start sobbing again.
