...a short explanation ...

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
AFAIK, in an interview, Yu-gi-oh's creator said he deliberately made Motou Yugi's hair resemble the shape of a human hand - all of the upward spikes are supposed to resemble fingers. He did this because he wanted his main character to be extremely memorable. One of the first shapes we all memorize as infants is that of our own hands.

I don't follow you, probably because I am tired. Say again? :)

Re: question/answer thread

Thing is most people in that thread weren't trolling at all, they were just commenting on the part of her original post that jumped out at them, and she got unduly mad at them and decided to fight to the death for her original interpretation. To the point of actually going "Yep, just gonna sit in this thread and argue with you cuz I have nothing better to do and also I'm ttly right!" I'm kind of terrified of what might happen if someone decides to troll her in earnest.

Re: How do you watch tv shows?

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2014-04-20 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever means possible since I don't have cable. I download or stream. Sometimes buy I DVDs or Blurays.

bored

As far as I'm concerned, the show itself provided the best possible response to this dilemma, by way of the angel Joshua in episode 5x16: "Why's He allow evil in the first place? You could drive yourself nuts asking questions like that!"

Ah, good. I value your opinion and it's a relief to hear that this wasn't a dealbreaker.

I'm not upset by the sentiment (it's not unusual) so much as I'm troubled by the fact that it might be a named user I like. And now they won't speak to me. Or something.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I would say at least four or five hours.

Re: Using the anon feature to attack someone who is struggling is so fucking childish.

This is really sweet, anon. I hope everyone sees this.

I download everything. We got rid of our cable service 'cause I was watching only Supernatural live and my SO was watching only news in the morning live. And both those things can be streamed, and everything else - download!

Saw Winter Soldier with my brother and (re)watched the latest Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D episode with my mother. Other than excercise... Not much else. (Still tired, somehow.)

HOMG, adorable!

IDW has some of the better licensed comics out there, yeah. I know some people rag on IDW for mostly doing licensed comics -or primarily being known for them-, but for what they are, they're all worth reading.

The only issue I have with their TMNT is the jarring art style shifts every so often, but even then, it's still a pretty solid piece of work. And one of my friends loves their X-Files comic, too. (She's just happy they brought back some of her favorite characters, haha)

So yeah, IDW is def. one to look into if you're into more derivative works as far as comics go.

It's a habit, and I enjoy wank when it pops up.

I'm involved in zero fandoms anymore, so most days I just gloss over the secrets and comments. I need better hobbies...

Ugh, that sucks.

Though I'd amend your moral to "don't ever volunteer for anything where you'll have any management/leadership responsibilities ever."

Best volunteer positions I've had were shelving used books at a non-profit bookstores and being a conversation partner in an ESL school. Anything that requires more than showing up at x-time each week and starts, well, requiring you to be there? Nope. I'm out.

Waiting for the boat to be ready so I can go diving. Gonna see some hammerheads and the underwater ruins at Yonaguni!

Actually I wish there was a better word to use than superficial here, since superficial encompasses a preference for physical attractiveness in general, not just a single feature. This? This is pretty hurtful. Unless I'm misunderstanding, it's a refusal to have a relationship with someone because of one specific thing that they had no say in.

It's kind of the same thing as saying you like women but not black women. Almost everyone would agree that it's a little racist no matter which way you swing it, because not only is it excluding a category of people that otherwise have everything you're looking for because of a single physical feature, it's the assumption that all people who have that physical feature are equally unworthy of your time.

I don't really have any stakes in this because I don't care whether or not someone might want to bone me or not, but I feel pretty awful for the next circumcised guy who gets up the courage to drop his pants in front of OP only to be turned down. Especially if there are genuine emotions at play.

Thanks, nonnie! I'm merely taken aback at the intensity of the reaction. It is a (pleasant) surprise, actually, that not the whole of this thread is hate.

For a second I thought "Lion King and Gladiator" was a movie and I was imagining Simba killing a bunch of animals in a stadium and then roaring "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?" while Scar looked on.

The "can't understand God's plan"? Some named users have been putting that forward.
