Ah, but you see, there are some people out there who are not gamers, but still wish to enjoy the product you've created in some capacity.

Like me? My depth perception is wonky, and I have bad reflexes. I also get upset/frustrated easily. So trying to play most games (outside of things like "Animal Crossing") are just an exercise in frustration.

But if I hear people getting excited over a game for its story, I'd like to enjoy that part. And good "Let's Play"ers help you feel engrossed in the game in a good way.

If game developers made games that I could play, they would be far too simple for your main demographic. So I take what I can get. :)

I think Sebastian Stan is just a chameleon. LOL. And like with most people, some angles and expressions are more flattering on him than others. Here you have Sebastian at comic con looking gorgeous and sweet, and then you have this. Now, I'm not saying he's ugly or anything (I'm not sure he could ever be), but even one expression can massively change a person's face. And he's a pretty expressive guy!

I don't know which exact pictures you're referring to but that could be it. I feel like he HAS changed a decent bit, but most of it just seems like natural aging and maturity to me. People can look quite different as they age, and if you gain or lose weight that will change things, too. And he bulked up a bit for Winter Soldier, so maybe his features appeared harder and more solid because of that. Lots of things can contribute to your appearance.

He does have an unusual face. I say that in the best way possible; I think he looks worlds different than Evans and Hemsworth and the rest of the Marvel cast. Just as hot, but in a different way. And of course he's a good actor; as seen in Winter Soldier, he has tons of talent, even when he only has his eyes to work with.

Yea, I really don't think he would need to be bigger in Cap 3 because why would he need to be more fit than he was when he was worldclass assassin? Granted, I suppose Bucky could throw himself into working out to take his mind off his problems, and if he's anything like comic!Bucky he might go out and fight evil to redeem himself so he would need to be in good shape for that, but again, I don't think he needs to be any larger. He could be the same size and it would make perfect sense.

I like Tom Hardy! But the thing to remember is...these people are actors. Just because they bulk up for a role doesn't mean they're going to stay in that shape. They may even have to lose weight for other roles. Look at how different Hemsworth looks here (after he lost about 30 pounds for Rush). It's a big, big difference from his Thor self.

Hemsworth is an alien, truth. I didn't even, like, consider the fact that he did have to lose all that stuff to be on Rush, and now he has bulked up once again!

"and if he's anything like comic!Bucky he might go out and fight evil to redeem himself "
Oh god but that would be the coolest shit. Why do we have to wait 2 years to know, WHYYYY.

SS is a chameleon, but he has the 'misfortune' of looking TOO pretty so I suppose it's sometimes hard to see him that way. When I first looked at him I was expecting the vapid acting skills that go with too pretty features. Then I looked at him better and he's a lot more rounded than I first gave him credit for. And well, as the WS he's something else even if he doesn't talk, credit must be given to him in all forms for being SO cool in that movie.

I completely agree with you that if there is a divine being that a multiplicity of metaphors is necessary for human understanding.

Re: How do you react to mistakes in fic?

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Do!

When I beta, I try to keep as close to the original author's style as possible. Correcting spelling, grammar, and awkward word usage. I want my "work" be invisible, because the readers aren't there to read MY fic. They're there to read yours.

Others, well... They try and turn it into the story they would like to write, if they could. I've seen that ruin many a good writer's style.

Don't be afraid to speak up, or reject anything that you really don't like. :)

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
that's perfectly fine, as i was saying! there's lots of ways to enjoy a medium and each is equally valid. that's definitely not what i'm objecting to. what i'm objecting to is claiming that watching someone play something is the same as playing it yourself.

(i'm sorry i'm probably repeating myself but i have the feeling a lot of people in this thread read my comment as me saying that playing a game is more fun than watching it. not comparing one to the other is actually really my point :/ i think it's because people who mainly watch let's plays get flak from "gamers" for not being real fans and feel very defensive about it, so they make that claim? it's such a ridiculous feud, we all love the same thing!)

also totalbiscuits review of "long live the queen" made me start playing and enjoy it, so i'm the last person to underestimate the power of good let's players.

Because I can? And I when it came to fanfic/killed inspiration secrets that have happened twice so far, possibly more, where all I see, at first, is nothing but "waaaah someone made me stop doing what I like" I don't feel sorry for them.

Granted, OP of the latest gave a vague answer to her situation, but I say she needs thicker skin for later on. And don't let shitty people like her "friend" do that again. Next time get fucking help instead of letting them win.

The anime eyes are freaky, but less grotesque than Miley's chalky tongue.

But it is very disrespectful. Gaga pretends to love Japan and then goes ahead and reduces it to anime. The other guests at that one episode of Music Station had "wtf" written all over their faces.

Don't get me wrong, I'm also not particularly fond of Miley. I basically think they're both their own shade of obnoxious.

Why does it matter if it's dangerous or not? It's against the law, they broke the law, and they're getting penalized for it. Simple as that.

There's a very easy way to avoid getting tickets: don't commit a traffic violation. I have no sympathies for anyone who does so and then whines about getting caught. I've been driving for over 10 years and never been ticketed for anything. It's not that hard.

AYRT

I was responding to the second part of the comment: "If you are not someone who into comic books, you are not going to hear about any of this. The general population doesn't care about any Marvel characters that are not in a movie." (Probably shoulda quoted that bit in my first response.)

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The part that gets me is the 'And then what?' I'm a person of faith (Witch) and the more I learn about science, the stronger my faith gets because it starts explaining how some of the impossible parts of the things I do, happen. This universe is huge, and, as it had to have come from something, somewhere, time had to begin...and time will end, But...then what? What ELSE is there? I'm excited to find out.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt that (and now, thanks to you, I have to give up my Canadian citizenship). :(

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Great quote, and great food for thought.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT. Ah, okay thanks - I wasn't aware of the context. I was just going from my reactions to the pictures, as in 'nice makeup job on the eyes, but it still freaks me out'.

Gaga has always been all about attention herself; I think the reason why Miley is more annoying (to some) is that Gaga CAN'T get much attention right now, no matter how she tries, whereas Miley is in your face whether you want it or not. She's the outrageous celebrity flavor of the month, hopefully soon to be supplanted by someone else who keeps their tongue in their mouth.

In other words, all this tl;dr to say I agree with "they're both their own shade of obnoxious."

I beta for a good friend of mine and I go back and re-read the story once she posts it. And if she's beta reading it, she's STILL a reader of it, regardless; to me it's not a legit reason to not use a beta reader.

A Spirou secret! :D I'm surprised to see anyone would collect Spirou fanart of all things while not being a fan of its series, since the Franco-Belgian aesthetics don't seem to be well known or appreciated by people who don't actually like the comics...? Oh well, might be just my own experience. I'm glad I saw your secret, OP, especially since I didn't see that fanart before.

Re: Young Adult Literature, I still don't get it (a rant)

Then perhaps it's the case that the marketing of YA lit generally sucks, in your location, in the same way that you can't get a good loaf of bread here.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-20 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the same issue. I watched a 200+ episode Let's Play of a jrpg (he did ALL of the sidequests, it was insane) and absolutely adored the storyline and found the graphics gorgeous. I bought the game for 40 dollars, got about 18 hours in and... just stopped. I haven't touched it in over a month now. I just didn't like the mechanics of the game, and the pretty wasn't enough to keep me going. I LOVE the storyline, but since I've seen a full playthrough and know the full story, I really can't find any reason to keep playing.

I don't regret the purchase, though - I did love the story, so I look at it as compensating the creators for that even though I actually witnessed it through a different medium than was intended.

It might help to remember that the best way you can show your appreciation to your parents for all they've done, and the best way to prove that their love and help is worth it, isn't to tell them in words or be self-deprecating - it's to be the best person you can be, find real happiness, and make a positive impact. :) And that might take time, but you can do it!

I'm sure it's true for some. I'm sure some people have legit reasons not to like her, too. I just don't get why there's so much hate. So yeah, that might be a big reason...

Yep. No point investing your time where not only will it not have a huge return for whoever you are trying to help but it's also mentally/emotionally draining for yourself.
