Miley Cyrus is a young woman trying to break out of the cutesy child everyone thinks she is, and she's pushing it and pushing it so people see her as a goddamn adult and not just Hannah Montana. And she's willing to do some ridiculous things for it.

But this is, honestly, a problem with a lot of child stars. People only see them as children and it fucks them over growing up when they try to take on roles to suit their age.

Except she's not acting like an adult. She's still acting like a stupid child, so she shouldn't be surprised when she keeps getting treated like one.

You want to be seen as and treated like an adult? Become one first.

Then you must not know many adults.

I know plenty of adults. They don't act like this. People who act like Miley are not adults; they're still stupid children, but with fully developed bodies.

This would be one sick burn if most adults acted like Miley Cyrus... but they don't.

Good lord, thank you.

I don't know many mature people. Most of them were already mature when they were 15-16. If you're a brat as a child, age alone is not going to remove it.

Being an adult means knowing that doing ridiculous things isn't what makes you an adult.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-19 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

- CS Lewis

wonder what this says about you, anon.

C. S. Lewis was talking about how taste in literature shouldn't have to change with age, not about acting out like a complete tool in public.

THIS, thank you!

I think that quote is saying exactly the same thing being discussed about Miley Cyrus. She is trying too hard to act "adult" with her sometimes tasteless antics, and as a result makes herself seem immature.
