Easter. But it is an excuse for eating candy and ham.

I wish I could have ham today but my dad doesn't like it and he does all the cooking in this house. At least I've got candy.

Lamb is the meat that supermarkets in the UK advertise for Easter. It's practically food porn the way some of them hawk their wares.

It's always a weird disconnect for me when Americans mention ham though, as part of a main meal, which implies to me that it's hot.

Here ham refers to cold, cooked pork, sliced and used for sandwiches or in salads. Some of the cheaper, nastier stuff is "reconstituted ham", and mostly water. Sometimes it's really "turkey ham", which is disgusting and tastes like neither turkey nor ham. My favourite is wafer-thin honey roast ham.

We eat cold thinner sandwich ham too! In my family at least, we only eat cooked ham once a year on Easter.

We (Americans who eat it) eat ham both hot and cold.

"ham" in the US can be hot or cold, and our family has definitely had it as the entree of big dinners before. what do you call pork that comes from the hind leg of a pig and is served warm and sliced thinly off the bone? (honestly curious)

Ham off the bone tends to be cold here, as I said. Gammon is hind leg, and can be served hot, but that doesn't have a bone in it.

Now I want gammon and mashed potato and raisin sauce :(
