(Anonymous) 2014-04-25 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)It fanon and I think it's a bit insulting because the implication is that female characters have to have love interests. I think people relate to Elsa because she has struggled and been isolated, and she has a lot to overcome, children probably just go for the songs, but the sister relationship is also sweet.
Personally I was so pleased to see a leading character with no love interest at all, where it just wasn't relevant to the plot, and disappointed to read fandom secrets and realise people were ascribing sexuality to her, when it's just not an issue.

Basically, headcanoning her as queer does zero to take away from all the other things people got out of the movie. And it IS fanon/headcanon, which you do not have to accept or like, but other people might.
SPOILERS!
(Anonymous) 2014-04-27 12:55 am (UTC)(link)Also, your mileage may vary, but there is NO sisterly relationship, more like a non-sisterly relationship, no femslash or slash undertones (even for viewers with slash goggles - like me!) at all. It's just that BOTH princesses do not get romantically linked to two generic heroes by the end of it. That's the whole of it, truly.
The whole point of the story is that they are complete strangers to each other - by the time they are adult, they have not seen each other for most of their lives...
And the underlying message is not about unrealistic love at first sight, though it does make that (excellent) point repeatedly (and in song as well).
No, unfortunately the main message of the movie is best shown by this clip of how Frozen should have ended (thus the spoilers warnings):

Personally I though that underlying message was downright nasty: if your kid is talented or intelligent, make her afraid of her talent and not work on improving and controlling it. Make her a willing prisoner, afraid to touch and love her family.
But if your kid is an irresponsible airhead, leave her free to do any stupid thing she wants, like say, falling in 'love' with the first man she meets...
Oh, and leave them to grow up entirely alone, without any reliable adult care, guidance and supervision or any education as far as I can tell: yes, that will turn out well for all concerned!
