Weird Fandom Habits

Do you have any?

My example would be that no matter the fandom, I always have to figure out what World of Warcraft class and spec a character would be (Steve Rogers is totally a prot pally). I am also a meticulous fanfic bookmark sorter, but this is a bit less weird.

What are some of your weird habits?

I binge-watch everything. I rarely if ever start a show right when it starts. I always start at least a season in and then watch entire seasons together. I just seem to enjoy watching multiple episodes of the same thing and immersing myself in a show.

I almost always do this. The only recent show I've watched from the start is Orphan Black. (I don't regret that at all)

Me too. I'm so terrible at keeping up with shows as they air. I've completely given up at this point.

Me too. I don't even watch on-going shows anymore, except Sherlock, which I began too long ago to give up on. I always just watch completed shows to avoid cliffhangers and things like that.

Same. I think the only series I've watched from beginning to end was Star Trek DS9, Voy, Enterprise, and Buffy/Angel.

I like to sort characters into Hogwarts houses, despite not being that big a fan of HP.

For TES and Dragon Age, I have extensive D&D character pages written up for all of my various characters, Jungian archetypes selected, character memes filled out, etc. All of it has to be lore compliant, as well.

I do things like:

+What House (HP), Ajah (WoT), Classpect (Homestuck) or element (a system I sort of made up) they would be
+What Pokémon team they would be
+What characters would correspond to each other in a group (there are so many groups of six characters out there...like Avengers, Mane Six ponies, sages from OoT...)
+Also sometimes, what blood color they would be if they were a troll
+Also also sometimes, additional categories like what their daemon would look like or what a YGO monster card of them would be like
+speaking of which I really like to make up YGO archetypes based on fandoms and I am currently working on one for Mass Effect
+and sometimes I like to make non-sapient creatures into Pokémon

A friend and I are big into connecting songs with fandoms/'ships/characters, and after we noticed two artists coming up over and over it's become a running gag that whenever one of us gets into something new we ask, "So which Carbon Leaf or Daughtry song are they?"

I do Fuck, Marry, Kill in my head a lot. Also those variations that ask you which characters you would [insert list of actions] with, which character you're most like, which one you wish you were like... I answer those in my head too.

I don't even much like reading baby fic and I'm meh about babies on the show, so no idea why I always do this.

He totally is, part of me always thinks of Cap when I see the prot pally shield going off in a group. I'm just sad there is no real way to mog into him.

-I like to put my ships and brOTP's into Jaeger teams. Or at least I sort out which ones would be drift compatible and which ones wouldn't be(eg: Vegeta and Goku/Trunks would be drift compatible while Bulma is the scientist that makes the Jaeger's).

i like to imagine my 3 fandom favs in various different Perfume (the Japanese group) cosplay and imagine the fan art. of course none exists because i am the only one weird enough to wish for it. i don't know why, because the two fandoms are never relevant, but Perfume have such fun outfits that it's beautiful crack. there are others no doubt but yeah, surely my weirdest one lol.

When I get into a new fandom I like to think about what sort of fanfiction the characters might write. (I think I made a secret about this a looooooong time ago, but I can't remember which post it was in. It was definitely before the move to dreamwidth, though.)

I make fanmixes for them. If I'm writing fanfic, I have to spend hours hunting for the perfect songs that fit their character arc.

I just really love discovering new music. The internet is wonderful for exposing people to artists they would never have listened to otherwise.

Also I binge watch shows, and stream them online. I'm incapable of actually watching a show week-to-week, and sitting through ads. I need to watch the whole thing in one go.

I create mental Pokemon games. The most fleshed out is Homestuck: you choose Jade or John as the PC, the other one is the primary rival, Rose and Dave are secondary rivals (in the vein of Trevor and Tierno from XY). All the beta trolls except Karkat, Nepeta, Gamzee, and Eridan are gym leaders (I even have the type specialties worked out). The alpha trolls are the villainous team, with Meenah as their nominal leader and Aranea secretly running the whole thing. The alpha kids are the Elite Four (I also have type specialities for them, except for Roxy), and the PC you didn't choose is the Champion (no type specialty).

This looks like I'm trying to show up the people with the Pokemon teams upthread. I'm sorry. I do not, in fact, have anyone's team worked out, interestingly enough.

I guess in that sort of line, my tendency to assign elemental affinities. It's Vagrant Story's fault, really - which is why mine is a six-element system, and characters' affinities can be plotted more or less by a point on 3 axes, which show their affinity for Fire vs. Water, Earth vs. Air, and Dark vs. Light.

...So I have these little 3D maps in my head for characters, basically. Which serve no purpose OUTSIDE of Vagrant Story fandom (and then only because I've incorporated that elemental affinity concept into my ficverse...) but they're STILL THERE.

Also there are some characters who will NOT let me write in past tense. For some reason anything they give me is in present tense, and I know some people find fic in present tense annoying, but they WILL NOT allow me to write their perspective in past tense. (Lookin' at you, Kurusu Masaki and Vera Misham.)

I've lost too many fics to the authors deleting them, so I started saving them on my computer. Then I saved to many to keep track of it all, so I started cataloging. Porn is separate from gen (which is anything not-porn, even if it's shippy), then each fandom gets a folder. Each fandom's folder gets an index fil that has the title, author, link to original posting, summary, and my own tags. Super useful! I don't have to open every dang fic to find the one I'm looking for.

If I get really into a fandom, for what ever reason, I'll, at some point, draw my favorite ladies as Sailor Senshi.

Never fails.

Hell, I just did that for my Aurin Wildstar Spellslinger.

Absolutely.

My only weird habit is that I stick to serial fannishness. I'll put off watching/reading things I think I might like enough to write fanfic for until I've completed all the fanworks for whatever my current fandom is.

While I listen to music (particular songs of course) I like to think about scenes from fics I've read or fics I'm writing/thinking of writing, almost like a little promotional video full of drama, synchronized with the music or words of the song. It's kind of annoying (but comforting) because I fear sometimes I'll never be able to listen to certain songs without smiling and thinking about a particular fic or relationship between characters.

Also, I like to [start] rewriting fics that I didn't like (could have liked but something was annoying about the OC, the ending, the grammar, w/e). These things never see the light of day. And I won't deny it, sometimes I make the OC a total self insert, since no one but me is going to read it.
