He was only in about two minutes of the movie though... Granted, considering the minuscule amount of screen time he had, he's in a lot of fanart. But he's got a bigger role in the other movies, and he's pretty, and fandom likes pretty people.

I'm not really a fan of Thranduil myself, but I don't see that much of him either.

I always loved Thranduil in the book. And in the old animated Hobbit. I based a major NPC in my old RPG on him.

He isn't cute in the conventional sense. I'd never get tired of that pic.

I'm tired of that particular picture because it's all anybody has to work with and as such is EVERYFUCKINGWHERE. But I adore Lee Pace. I will never get tired of his face.

I can only see him as the guy from Pushing Daisies doing LotR cosplay - and I like it!

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, Thranduil's is my favorite Tolkien character and it's nice to see him getting some love after all the abuse he got when the LOTR movies first came out.

On the other hand, I'm not looking forward to the craziness that tends to surround popular characters.

I feel the same way. But it might have to do with my being a bitter Elrond fan. I mean, I feel that Thranduil was so much better loved even before he was on screen, and now the new fandom is getting crazy about him again.

Way back when I was a young fan in the LotR fandom, me and my friend discussed whether Thranduil would be hot in the movie, and whether that would quell the abusive!Thranduil trope.

...Now I'm not in the fandom so I have no idea whether that's even still around, but his perfect face makes me incredibly happy either way. Live the dream!

But...he only showed up in a flash so far? You mean the web is populated by images of him? I wouldn't be surprised. My first thought was that his eyebrows are weird. And too thick perhaps.
