Your countries' stereotypes of other countries?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-02 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm curious.

How does your country think other countries act? You can also include other stereotypes of other parts of your country.

That Canadians never lock their doors, are always helpful, and ride moose mounts.

Don't forget how much they love bacon and maple syrup.

I always lock my door, and I can't find my moose. But I'll probably help you out if I can. :)

And it's always cold. I once got asked if it was cold after I'd spent all July sweating...

Texans are all literally cowboys and talk in a deep southern drawl.

Also everything's 150% bigger there.

West Virginians are inbred hill-billies who keep their washing machines on their porches.

According to TV shows I've seen, French Canadians say "Sacré bleu!" when even the French don't say that anymore.

Damn! There goes one of the three French phrases I know. What do they say now??

That NY accent sounded Australian to me. lol, Do you guys really think we have fireworks on Halloween? That's really only a 4th of July thing, or maybe when the president is announced.

There is no racism in Canada.

The British are all snobs with bad teeth.

The French are all snobs but at least they're hot.

Japanese ride mechs to school.

Africa is poor and has no advanced technology (Africa is totes a country, right?).

french stereotypes are pretty straightforward. spaniards are loud and lazy. italians are loud, overly friendly and have stupid oily hair. portuguese people are hairy patriotic construction workers. greeks are crooks. danes are creepy. germans are silly tourists who get fried when they go to the beach and walk around wearing fannypacks and crocks. belgians are dumb but jolly. the swiss have a goddamn mountain shoved up their ass. swedes and norwegian people are all tall blonde supermodels. finnish people are depressed alcoholics. russians are psychotic alcoholics who have bad taste in music. the welsh live in farms and are probably aliens because their towns are called things like llllwwwwknmwncvbn. the scottish are a rowdy bunch of nice hospitable drunks. the irish are grumpy alcoholic redheads who go to church a lot. australians are crocodile dundee. the japanese are polite and stiff and say nasty things about you behind your back.
and of course, americans are fat, uncultured, shallow and uneducated, and the english are the worst.

That's not a stereotype, that's true.

What amuses me about the Norwegian/Swedish VS Finnish stereotype is that in my experience Finns look more Scandinavian than us so they should really get our blonde good looking rep...

Not that our stereotypes are any more accurate or anything, tho we pretty much agree on stereotypes just slightly different countries and such, it seems like most countries in Europe use the same ones, just not necesarily agree on which country they belong to or what do you think?

The Norwegian stereotype of French are sophisticated wine drinkers with great food, but not so big on actually working.

Missouri is a bunch of rednecks.

Iowa is basically just corn fields and maybe some people.

Michigan is a great place to visit.

Wisconsin has cheese and stuff.

And apparently the only thing in Illinois is Chicago.

Re: Your countries' stereotypes of other countries?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-02 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Wisconsin is actually only made of cheese. Every summer the Wisconsinites put on their cowboy boots and hats and go out into the fields to harvest it. Cheese harvests are essential before the ten month winter begins.

The Chinese care about nothing except money and will shortchange you over a matter of 20 cents. On the other hand, they are brilliantly clever, so begrudging respect.

Indians are dirty scoundrels who'll never do a day's honest work.

Malays are a lying, corrupt people who think that tradition is more important than anything, including health and safety. And they're weak and bad at math.

Oh and never forget what a nasty bunch those Westerners are. They'll do anything to overthrow the pure and untarnished values of the Malays! DEATH TO [insert random president of America].

Supposedly, German tourists get too close to wildlife, and are therefore more likely to be eaten by bears, kicked by elk, etc. I don't know if this has a factual basis or not, but I have heard it many times, therefore I'm going to say it's a stereotype.

Americans have this idea that Canada's a small country that's still part of America... some... how.

Buy a map, people.

Everyone is trying to come to Australia in leaky boats.

America is trying to take over the world via "peace-keeping" and media.

Internal: NSW drivers speed like crazy and depend on their breaks to save them. QLD drivers will almost kill themselves (and their kids) to get one car-space ahead.

Queenslanders believe Daylight Savings Time fades the curtains and confuses the cows. That's why they don't have it. (And I say this as a QLD resident, though I admit to being a NSW ex-pat.)

Victorians insist on calling Newcastle "Newkessel" instead of "New-caarr-sl". And will argue with Newcastle (or other similarly mispronounced city) residents that they are saying the city name wrong.
