Favorite LPrs

(Anonymous) 2014-05-06 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by secret number 6.

Who are your favorite Let's Players? My absolute favorite is Stephen Plays on youtube, though I also really like AgentJR. Overall I find PewDiePie a little too obnoxious and offensive, but I did really love his Amnesia LP - his over-the-top reactions and screaming really worked for me in that one where other, tamer and more methodical LPs of the game left me bored.

Achievement Hunters as a whole (my least favorite being Jack). Robbaz because he is hilarious. And then agentjr. His voice is really soothing to me so I often put his videos on in the background while I do other stuff.

AgentJr is the only LPer that I actively follow his voice is do fucking awesome. Thank goodness he did LPs for the Silent Hill series. Every other LPer who did the series I found had annoying voices.

Aren't those called Walkthrough's and considered separate from Let's Plays where they do talk?

+1

I can't stand Let's Players either.

I like supergreatfriend. He doesn't talk over the game, is pretty informative and amusing, and plays games I would never, ever touch but are entertaining to watch (like illbleed).

(I always forget how to spell this dude's name) Pksparkxx Dathottness (Dude's super enthusiastic and doesn't swear, which is an unusual plus), ClementJ642 (mainly it's my putting his review of Sonic 06 on repeat over and over), SomecallmeJohnny, and , because someone has to, Cr1tikal.

I like the ones who talk and comment on the game as they're playing.

Re: Favorite LPrs

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2014-05-07 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
I also like Cr1tikal, but I feel like his videos are kind of declining in quality lately.

My favourites are Chuggaaconroy and Game Grumps, even though their style of LP are complete opposite.

The only Let's Player I regularly follow is Helloween4545. I've also noticed that anything on lparchive.org is likely to be good, though I'm not sure why. Beyond that, some highlights:

A charming but easily frightened young lady plays Ghost Trick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwlQoNbIU2Q

A dumbass dudebro with no clue what he's getting into plays Spec Ops: the Line http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zVOM0vGXFw

A trainwreck of the funniest kind on Trauma Team: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tRc-N6ZXUA

Re: Favorite LPrs

(Anonymous) 2014-05-07 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
All the lparchive.org stuff is from SomethingAwful, which tends to have good LPs to start with because they actually care and will mock people who post shitty or low-effort or unfunny LPs, and the ones that get hosted there are selected based on quality and popularity. So that's probably why they're likely to be good.

sips, from the yogscast. he has a really nice voice. also he's a humble, modest guy, and i appreciate that, especially since a lot of lpers seem to have an ego bigger than their bowl of cheetos. and most importantly, i just find him funny. he screws up pretty often, but he has his moments of brilliance too, and he's always chill about it. so yeah, i like him a lot.

I like Pewdiepie dammit, lol. I'm too much of a chickenshit to play scary games, so his OTT reactions are both comforting by distracting me from the scary shit and "THANK GOODNESS I'm not the only one!!", and I like that he gets into the characters more than min-maxing the gameplay. Tobuscus makes me lol for the same reasons.

I like this dude. Haven't watched a ton of his stuff (and I think he only does horror games), but I loved his Outlast LP; he has a nice voice, a nice face (he vaguely reminds me of Sebastian Stan, which hello) and is entertaining but not obnoxious. Love him.

I tend to follow LPs more often by game rather than by commentator, but the ones who I find myself coming back to most often and/or actively following are Lotus Prince, Cry, and NakaTeleeli.

Not terribly prolific, but he's got a very dry, pleasant sense of humor that I appreciate, and he tends to pick action puzzlers with enjoyable stories.

Helloween4545! He's got a really nice british accent that's easy to listen to and does only scary games but doesn't shriek like a little girl every few seconds. The only few times that he DOES get scared is absolutely hilarious - like when he was playing F.E.A.R. and got surprised by a ninja and now harbours a deep and everlasting vendetta towards all ninjas.

His LP of playing as the xenomorph in the AvP games just make me cry with laughter every time.

I've watched so many different LPs of Outlast lately, after seeing it recommended in Entertainment Weekly or somewhere. I can't play horror games myself (love horror movies and write horror myself, but horror games are too overwhelming for me unless it's just one level like the Shalebridge Cradle in Thief which I loved) and I'll watch pretty much anything set in a jacked up asylum. Or a perfectly decent one, I don't know why. Favorites have been:

Yogscast Kim and Hannah, very mellow but still scared, good with reading all the notes and trying to figure things out and feeling for some of the victims of jacked up asylum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBDecD4Q9pY&list=PLlSBsxKnPs6RwnNY8casgHQKv4zdQ8KpA

SourceFedNerd has four really funny highlight videos with Steve, Meg (poor Meg lol) and Trisha: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rte8hlIAtQA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwezHy-47kc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbcwHavv3rQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRQT-rqlfXY

Screamtage from PoiisedsM, the most terrified person in the world: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KP1N2fnPw0

Spike & Barley, beer-swilling goofball roommates, funniest thing about five minutes into the fourth one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J46pG7IQOBs

Markiplier, best juxtaposition of Game Show Host Voice with scare reactions, best reaction to the guy who wants to tell you a secret: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8ri1v8vTTM&index=2&list=PL3tRBEVW0hiCg3HxKK4WGQ-h4ejmjmYGb
Now doing the DLC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYFCcO0gsrY&list=UU7_YxT-KID8kRbqZo7MyscQ

I watched a boring guy do the whole DLC earlier and now can't wait for these others to play it. I thought it was pretty crap as a prequel, but there's this whole bizarre sequence that's really going to traumatize people, lol. It's like they watched all the videos of young guys getting scandalized and threatened by the naked male enemies and decided that was their new niche, so they'd better turn it up to eleven. They got into a Whole Weird Area, like they used to say on MST3K.

Cry is pretty much the only one I can stand these days. His gorgeous voice aside, he just seems laid back, and you can tell if he genuinely likes a game (which he usually does, I think).

I used to love raocow (he was the same "random monkey cheese" type of funny for a while before he mellowed out) but these days he just seems whiny. Too many death montages and and too much complaining, considering he was the one who decided to stop using tools in the first place.

Oh, I also like Brad (TheRadBrad? ThaRadBrad? I don't remember).
