Re: Fic etiquette question

[personal profile] crunchysunrises 2014-05-08 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's cruel. You are literally rewriting someone's fic (including their OC... who might actually be their self-insert from the sounds of things) and then expecting that person to be happy about it.

The "arranged marriage to a god" idea has been around since the ancient Greeks. If you want to use it, that seems fine to me. It's an idea, not the body of someone's work, and it's so old that it's all over mythology.

Write your own thing with this idea (WITHOUT using the other writer's OC... that you seem to hate) and then drop a line to the other author to say, "Hey, I really enjoyed your fic and it inspired me to risk writing one of my own. Thanks for the push!" or something much nicer but also lacking the implication that the original fic sucked so bad it required a third party re-write.

It seemed to me like he had the Jacob Taylor (Mass Effect) Syndrome really bad-- which is to say, it feels like the creators were so afraid of offending by making him do anything that could vaguely be construed as stereotypical that they just sort of...deleted any possible personality he might have had. It's a shame, too, I was super-excited about him at the start. :(

OP ... just got home from work

Two characters with the same face, sometimes for reasons of destiny, or maybe they were cloned from the same DNA or ... whatever.

Tennant's eyes are also asymmetrical. He's still gorgeous, though.

*looks again* You might be onto something there.

Re: "Just One Time"

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I remember "Chasing Amy" really pissed me off at the end, because the insinuation was that she ~settled~ for her lesbian lover and the real love of her life was the ~man that got away~. Which honestly wouldn't have pissed me off so much if she had been bisexual, as opposed to stated as a lesbian, because that had all sorts of gross "conversion" themes underlying it. :/

Re: Fandom Secrets Reading Patterns?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I open two tabs, one with the secret images and one to the comments. I go through the secrets and as I'm doing that scroll down through the comments to the threads for secrets I'm interested in. When I'm done with that I close the tab with the secret images in it and go to page 2 of the comments in the other tab.

OP again

Also, time travel can be involved or alternate universes and crossovers.

I headcannon a lot, write bits and pieces, but rarely post anything because there doesn't seem to be much of an audience for it.

I was thinking of putting Haldir/Darken Rahl in the secret, but for the most shallow reason, I went with Darken/Gaius instead.

See, I didn't have a pic of Haldir in a bathtub...

Yeah but I hated the twins so. I hope Danny gets another boyfriend too! And now that we know that Danny know about what's going on, I hope Danny gets more screentime. ;3;

Re: Favourite Teen Wold ships that aren't Sterek?

[personal profile] nan 2014-05-08 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
I do ship Stiles with Lydia fanonly but canonly I want them to have a investigative buddy friendship thing, hahaha. XD But yes, I want Danny in on the supernatural action.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Plenty of material to start with. I mean, those two pictures in the secret lead right into a story about a life-long soldier, loyal to country and commander and his secret passionate infatuation with the street-rat rebel with the kool aid colored hair...

Re: Fic etiquette question

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
This really looks like hairsplitting to me. "Steal" needn't "convey the full scope" of "annex" to convey a similar sense, especially in the context of a comment where you have essentially used "stealing" to describe what the OP proposes to do.

Also, if "never steal from your peers" is some sort of universal fandom law, why is it that when I google "fandom law never steal from your peers," the only actual source for the quote is the same one you linked?

Re: What shows have you started watching just for a ship?

Fanfic. Copious amounts of shippy fanfic.

A little late, but:

“Applejack, I have to ask you this,” Twilight said. “I know you don’t want to tell me, but I need to know. How many?”

“It won’t help to know, Twi. It’ll just burn in your gut.”

“You know, don’t you?” Twilight asked. “You had to ask. You’re not the kind of pony who can just look away from things like this. I’m not that kind of pony, either. How many, Applejack?”

“Three so far,” Applejack said, trying to keep her voice even. “Thunderlane and Helia fell too far, and Ambrosia had an accident with some construction equipment. A lot of other ponies are missing. Twi, you won’t listen when I say this, but it’s my fault, not yours--”

“You were just the assistant,” Twilight interrupted. “It was my experiment. I should have set up better safety protocols. This is the kind of thing that gets ponies put in prison, Applejack! And since I’m a princess, the other princesses will be the jury.” She couldn’t stop the tears from flowing. “Princess Celestia is going to have to decide whether or not I’ll be punished for this. How am I going to look her in the eye?”

Three points:

1.) "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug." - Mark Twain

2.) While I'm not the keeper of your google-fu, I suspect we got different search results because we used different search terms.

3.) This might've been fun earlier in the evening, but it's not now. OP had a question, I weighed in, and now I'm done.

Heck, they carry it at Wal-mart around here.

Re: Bread

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Me, too. I don't really like white bread anymore. I just wish it were easier to find whole grain hamburger buns where I live.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure there are some Tennant character/a in bathtubs. You disappoint, OP. ;)
