Where do you post fic? I'm quite interested in where this is going.

Re: Family Fandom

Star Trek. Everybody in my family watches and likes Star Trek, starting with mother and father back when the original series was in its first run.

We're not uniform-wearing, t-shirt donning, con-going kinda fans, but I think between the lot of us, we own every episode of every series, all the movies and most of the novels. If I need to see a particular episode of DS9 in a hurry, I just call my family.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Damnit. I missed the boat on that. Should have spent less time fretting over fonts and more time image searching.

MTE

Speaking of LotS, there's the potential for Kahlan self-cest! Come on, that ep where she was split in two, one of her was def checking herself out!

Re: All of these white tears and not enough buckets to hold them.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not in my family. The white side is more interested in fetishizing me and my siblings while going on about how "ghetto" the black side of my family are. Despite the fact that my mom and almost all of my aunts, uncles and cousins are college-educated and have good jobs.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Please tell me somebody has written that.

In my headcanon, MacPhisto has had everybody. And their uncle. *nods*

Oh my, really? I usually post my stuff on my ao3. I think this snippet may be a bit misleading as to the actual nature of the fic though. It's supposed to be some fluff where Simon and Bobby go house shopping because Bobby's apartment is too full of bad memories of the Phantom for him to stay there. The darker and more pensive tone just kind of ran away from me...

You're welcome! It's also funny you should say that, since a few chapters back Sai was commenting on Sakura's feelings for Sasuke, too. Sakura hasn't had much to say or do for quite some time.

You do not get it. No really. The comic is nuanced and maybe people have to live that reality understand, or be willing to accept that some of the strip requires cultural context.

It both highlights the ridiculousness of Huey's position... She IS both and really CANNOT choose and shows what many people think anyway. That you do in fact have to choose. Yet, Huey also is that guy... the one that thinks he's trying to help you love your black heritage.

It also shows Jazmin's frustration with just trying to be who she is and having people tell her that she can't be that while at the same time highlighting how who she is is, in fact, influenced by certain historical issues.

TL;DR: Sometimes Huey is right, sometimes Jazmin is right and none of their arguments would occur if the society they lived in wasn't racist.

K/S: Except that a romance isn't canon, although some of their beloved shippers will insist that it is.

It seems that this is a phenom that occurs all over the place. I wonder what causes this. Does the relationship being canon make it a more valid fan ship?

I'll probably eventually end up with both, but I'm going to start with Alpha Sapphire because Sapphire's the one I still have from back in the day. Seriously, I have well over a dozen Pokemon on my X game that came from the game I started on Sapphire in 2004.

I'm so full of happy about this! I'm totally picking Torchic as my starter again, and I'm gonna have an Altaria and a Delcatty and make a kick-ass secret base and win all the contests and be awesome forever!
elialshadowpine: ([whedon] so many books so little time)

[personal profile] elialshadowpine 2014-05-08 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
This seems pretty simple to me. I mean, if a friend recommends a book to me and squees about loving XZY things in it, even if I might not pick up on those elements normally, I'm going to notice them when I read the book because they've been pointed out. Also, if a friend of mine and I have similarities in things that affect us, it would then make sense that I'd have a similar reaction, especially with those things already pointed out.

I think a suggestion that's been made is good -- find books on your own, not recommended, and see how you react to them. More reading is never a bad thing, anyway. ;)

Re: Things you're excited about!

[personal profile] cakemage 2014-05-08 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Mario Kart 8, my hysterectomy on Monday, the fact that it's officially beach season in Pensacola and the water is lovely, and the fact that I dyed my hair neon orange and it turned out fabulous and everyone loves it! One of the employees in Alvin's Island even called me resplendent within seconds of me walking in and at first I didn't realize he was talking to me and not actually making fun of me, but once I did it made my day!

I...can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but none of that happened in this movie. In this movie threesomes were fetishized until deemed "a horrible awful thing."

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
No seriously. I'm a new digital-only reader. There are many more. Accept it and get over yourself.

[personal profile] elialshadowpine 2014-05-08 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'd be interested in seeing digital numbers, or subscription numbers for the Marvel Unlimited app, which is the route we've gone. (For those who don't know, it's an app that for a monthly fee lets you have access to all the Marvel comics they've uploaded, with the exception of brand-new comics. If you want the very latest, you have to pay extra for that, but if you're not in comics fandom and don't mind waiting a few months for trickle-down, you'll still get it.)

Re: Post-a-sample thread

[personal profile] feotakahari 2014-05-08 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
You can always let it run. There's a lot of potential in the idea of Fulbright surviving, particularly if he has some scrap of information the Phantom tried to hide. (And of course there's a lot of potential in the general idea of Fulbright and Blackquill interacting.)

[personal profile] badass_tiger 2014-05-08 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, that's right. I actually have a couple of different ideas I've been tossing around of Blackquill and the real Fulbright interacting post GS5. I do so love those two. And it's my way of recovering after the emotional trauma that was 5-5! I loved Fulbright so much and the ending was not kind to me.

Re: Fic etiquette question

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. Offering a sequel with credit should be fine. It would likely bring new interest to the original story. It's done in fandom already. You wouldn't be the first.

I saw a story have two people do sequels when they thought of (what they thought was) a better ending (while the author was still writing) and all three stories are still posted. The author freaked out a little that they didn't like her ending, but no one try to say they were wrong for continuing her credited OC-less story.

I, personally, would be flattered, but others might not be.
