Honestly, I'm curious as to what you think it means. Not wanting to be around them is pretty much the definition I'm working with? And this is the second time you've conflated "not liking" with "hating". Why are you doing that?

I'm defensive because the way I first read your comment, or whoever's comment it was if you're not OP, was that you found people who didn't like cats to be disturbing and unworthy of trust - your words, not mine - and that says a lot about someone's character. And he likes some cats (a few individuals), he just generally doesn't care for them. He doesn't hate them. Why do you keep saying different things as if they're all the same?

My dad's into all that reality TV stuff (not Big Brother or Survivor, but things like Operation Repo, American Guns, Pawn Stars etc), and one of the shows he was into at one point was about wild boar hunters in one of the southern states. It seemed like a lot of the meat they didn't use themselves got taken down to homeless shelters for their use.

Except not. My schools sure never got me prepped for the real world.

I am so sick of that statement.

And Sonny and Jason are fucking murderers, but you know what? We still give a damn about their stories and their redemption. So give it a rest, that was, like, thirty years ago.

I think you are grossly misunderstanding the scope of intelligence tests, as well as approaching this with a clear bias. (for the record, I don't have cats or dogs, I am a small rodent person)

I am not projecting by referring to social dynamics of dogs vs social dynamics of cats. In fact, I'm curious as to why you are ignoring the biological imperative dogs have to please owners (and therefore, generally be compliant with testing). Instead, you're equating that to intelligence, which is pretty ridiculous. Cats do not have pack dynamics in their brains, and certainly no recognition of an "alpha" as dogs do. They are solitary.

Yet these tests - and animal intelligence experts generally concur - are often biased to manipulating behaviors that come more natural to dogs than to cats. This does NOT mean cats are incapable of solving complex problems. If you check the link I posted, you'll see referred to various complex problems, including learning how to work together with a fellow cat while in a cage to get a treat that would be otherwise impossible. The fact that you think cats are incapable of "complex problem solving" (at least how it is defined in terms of all animal testing, including dogs) makes me think you simply don't have any idea what kinds of tests have been performed with cats.

I've refuted your (wrong) point that cooperation correlates with intelligence. It does not. Cats have lower motivation for food rewards and for pleasing humans than dogs. This directly relates to their style of hunting in the wild, for both animals.

And I've already explained that cats have a higher ability for information processing (a factor of intelligence) than dogs do.

I am not saying cats are smarter than dogs. I am saying that they cannot be compared, and both are "smart" in ways appropriate to their species. It's one thing to say dogs are better at a certain type of test. But dogs are not "smarter" than cats.

Wait, never mind, they just reposted the request again. With bonus whining about "spammers" being to blame for the freezing of the original prompt.

SA again

And the mod has already deleted it. Hopefully this won't kick off another round of wank.

I never said that all schools are like this, I was purely talking about my own experience. This is how the system in Israel works.
There are public secular schools, public religious schools, and public arab schools. There is a "base curriculum" of certain subjects which all schools must teach in order to be considered public and get support from the government, but outside of that they have a certain amount of freedom in choosing which subjects to teach and how much of an emphasis to put on them.

The high school diploma is given based on matriculation, and you can matriculate in almost all subjects, including the religious ones, in government-overseen examinations.

For homeschooling and such, there is also the possibility of doing "external" examinations, meaning matriculating without going to school, so you get a high school diploma without having to actually go to school.

Ah, ok. I got the impression from your first comment that you were defending uniforms in general based on your experiences. Sorry, I think I misread it.

Thanks for the explanation :)

Re: School Dress Codes

[personal profile] ketita 2014-05-21 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I do personally think that people make a much bigger deal over uniforms than necessary, and that wearing clothes that don't reflect you for a few hours a day is not the worst thing ever. I think it stems from a culture that increasingly demands to be able to do what I want when I want otherwise I am oppressed, and I disagree with this fundamentally.

I can accept that other people feel differently on the subject.

Ah, okay! :)

Sorry, it's just that some people on F!S can be kind of... barbedly-snarky in their humor and use not-quite-obviously sarcastic comments.

Yeah, it does kind of suck coming along after it's all finished and saying, "But.... I ship them? (;_;) "

But that's what AU fic is for! :)

Re: which cartoon character are you most like

[personal profile] iceyred 2014-05-21 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
No, no. I'm not offended. Almost every sector I've worked in has been predominately male, most of my family is male, and my hometown is a Navy town and the U.S. Navy is not known for its femininity. The girly-ness is partially a pushback against all of that.

If I sound like I'm older than 28, it's because I was raised by curmudgeons. My parents were close to 40 when they had me.

Can't explain the red thing. Or the username. I had wine the night I came up with it (which also explains the misspelling.) I think it might have something to do with red ice, but I'm not sure.

I don't think anyone is saying that you're "oppressed" for having to wear a uniform...at least nobody here.

I'm kind of confused now as to whether that was ultimately your point, or not.

Eh?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a New Wave science fiction title to me. Harlan Ellison or Philip K. Dick, maybe.

Chloe/Clark

(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, lots of people thought Clark was missing out by picking Lana over Chloe. Even after Lois showed up, there were fans who wanted Lois to die, Chloe to change her name to Lois, and Chloe!Lois and Clark to end up together.

You are not alone, OP.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-21 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, I thought this was actually going to be a YU-NO secret. Anybody played it? The translation got some buzz and I want to get to playing it eventually, but looking up the game's navigation system was sort of scary, ha. I guess it's one of these things I'll have to hope makes sense when I play it.

Plus, the current showrunner and Head Writer weren't the ones that made the decision to gloss over the rape when it happened and term it a 'seduction' (thank you Gloria Monty setting into motion the wank/debate that will never ever end. Burn in hell you dead bitch).

I now have the mental image of Nick Fury playing Pokemon that I never knew I wanted until now. I'm not even in MCU fandom goddammit.
