Since people wanted one and we just hit 2000+:

I'd want them to stay. They're a part of fandom--a major part--and I like having the mix. Splitting them off is like having a separate secret community for shipping or fanart.

[identity profile] aishiteru.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I bet you anything that even if a separate RP secrets comm - [livejournal.com profile] rp_secrets OR [livejournal.com profile] rp_sekrits - got up and running, plenty would still find their way here. RP'ing and fandom are inextricably linked, guys, sorry.

seriously just keep them WHO CARES scroll past if they bore you.

...seriously? Fuck, I must be doing it wrong.

waaaah people are posting secrets about something I don't do

while we're at it, let's knock the fanart secrets because not everyone is into fanart

and fic secrets because that's not everyone's thing either

I've heard this argument a thousand times and all it ever seems to come down to is BAAAAAAAAAAW I DON'T LIKE IT. If we're going to get rid of anything, how about we get rid of all those secrets with the goddamned neon text on busy backgrounds? At least then we can claim to be doing it for a noble cause, like saving everyone's retinas.

I'm into RP, but I still wouldn't mind a separate community for it. I'd like it. RP secrets are just drama.

[identity profile] longlongwaytogo.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I think RP is part of fandom.

[identity profile] fairness.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
RP is a major part of fandom. I don't really RP much, but I acknowledge and appreciate that others do.

[identity profile] author-by-night.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I don't see the problem. No, they don't always interest me, but a lot of fandom secrets don't when they aren't about fandoms I know about. Roleplaying is part of fandom - a huge part. Therefore, those secrets belong here.

[identity profile] ruxi.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
On the one hand, it's a mite counterproductive to exclude what is, as others have commented, a very important tidbit of fandom activity. The LOLTOOFREQUENT argument doesn't really work because, well... Kingdom Heart, Death Note, CLAMP and I-SHIP-IT secrets are also fandom faves, and you can't just objectively draw the line for some, while maintaining the rest.

On the other hand... RP secrets do seem to generate quite a bit of d0rama. I say this as a fandomsecrets follower, RPer and RP moderator - it's no thrill when someone chooses to stamp a violent commentary alongside the username of the "offending" RP account, and call it a "secret". Maybe, as some posters have suggested, consider banning secrets that aren't general enough (" I hate this approach to X's characterization!!!! " as opposed to " ZOMGWTF player A's interpretation of B is made of PHAIL PHAIL PHAIL KILL THEM WITH FIRE " ? ). I don't know whether that sort of move wouldn't then force you to extend the courtesy unto all activities, tho - no more linking to individual fanfic and deviantart accounts and some such...

Yeeeeeah, so in an end, here's 0.02 that you've probably already taken into account. Sowee. ._.

I don't think so. I don't see how a game of a few people basically having pseudo cyber sex/relationships with the guise of "role playing" fictional characters has anything to do with fandom. They're repetitive, boring, lame and unless you're in the person's specific RP universe, NO ONE CARES OR KNOWS WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

(Anonymous) 2007-11-25 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I don't watch tv, so I don't know what any of these House or Supernatural or Heroes secrets are about.

TAKE THEM AWAY BECAUSE I DON'T UNDERSTAND THEM OR CARE ABOUT THEM.

RPing isn't really a fandom, is it?

SO I VOTE NO.

RP is a part of fandom, in a sense that it's not really fandom. It's like a tribute to fandom or something. Like fanfiction. And in fandomsecrets, you talk about the fandom itself, not a tribute to it, which is RP.

And besides, most of the people are only using RP!secrets as an opportunity to bullshit on other roleplayers.

Bring on the drama.

[identity profile] hezul.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't see how RP is any less a part of fandom than, say, fanfiction is, by that definition. Are you in favor of kicking out all secrets that talk about that, too?

edit: okay you mentioned fanfic, I can't read.

But the question stands, since I've seen fic secrets and fanart secrets and the like here, as well. If you want to get rid of RP on that justification, what about those?

OMG SINCE I DO NOT RP THEY NEED TO GTFO

NEEDS MOAR 'I SHIP' SECRETS

[identity profile] tardious.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
I usually don't read RP secrets anyway, I just roll right over them. I think people can do something in similarity as well, since it's usually easy to tell when it's going to be about a community, pairing, or whatever.

Either way, people can say that about Death Note secrets or the like, if we keep separating each little thing that someone nags about we won't even have a fandomsecrets anymore and will be forced to watch other communities which may die in a month or so anyway.

Though of course, my personal opinion.

[identity profile] tardious.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, not to mention people will probably still keep sending them here anyway due to the convenience of just one community. People are pretty lazy and are not going to go out of their way, out into another community to post some RP!secrets when they could just easily send it here with other fandom secrets in one go.

[identity profile] sirhellsing420.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
RP is a major part of fandom, so it should stay.

[identity profile] pts.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I find them annoying. On the other hand, they have taught me that the livejournal fandom roleplaying community is a) huge and b) fucking crazy.

[identity profile] kanna.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Nevermind the RP secrets, I say the "I'd hit it" secrets should be banned. At least the RP ones can be lurid and interesting sometimes!

[identity profile] lampdevil.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
I certainly wouldn't MIND a separate RP Secrets comm, if just because then I could post secrets about my not-at-all-fandom-y RPs that I'm in! :D

Seriously I can't be all secrety here because of that. :(
velshtein: (AMON JIM: I'm sick and twisted)

[personal profile] velshtein 2007-11-25 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I think they should be kept. It's fandom related and it's also incredibly easy to just scroll past a secret if you're not interested in reading it. I dig that.

(Anonymous) 2007-11-25 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well... some RP secrets are pretty stupid, like the "I LOVE MY RP PARTNER!" or "THESE PEOPLE MADE ME LOVE/HATE THIS CHARACTER!" but on the other hand there are also some stupid non-RP secrets.

Take the 'I love you' secrets for example. Sure your RP buddy would like it but it's pretty pointless for everyone else.

So maybe not ban RP secrets but have a general rule that any secret is not to be directed at a specific person.

[identity profile] lostremnant.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind them because I don't read them because in 99.99% of them I have absolutely no idea what they're talking about anyway.

[identity profile] schizo-niko.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
A community dedicated entirely to RP secrets would get really old really fast. We think they're repetitive now, just wait until there aren't other secrets there to dilute them.

[identity profile] antiva.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
...Why? I like the mixture of things. Just scroll past what doesn't interest you.

[identity profile] angelofsnow.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
I want to add my two cents in too. I'm really sick of the rp secrets frankly. (And of course the "I ship it" are just as bad.)

Where's the originality people?

[identity profile] atoli.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Insert every point I agree with that's been mentioned about ten million times already here]

I voted yes :\

[identity profile] friendshipbeam.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
What's people's problem with them?

[identity profile] raven-scarlett.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really care, I have no interest in them personally as I don't roleplay and therefore have no idea who/what the fuck they're writing about, but I understand that RP is just as much a fandom for many as bandom is for me. I think they should stay.

(Anonymous) 2007-11-25 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
RP secrets cause too much pain for involved parties. If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything, I think.
