this is a really weird argument.

nothing wrong with applying yaoi tropes to a yaoi anime (oops, I mean, sports anime) but OP doesn't have to like those tropes. And if there are people who try to write anime pairings more "seriously" in the West - well, I think there are some in Japan, but there's so much less LGBT awareness and that makes that framework more difficult to break out of.

I will apply this logic the next time I defend that spn Haiti fic for fun.

Superior Nippon tropes are just a special kind of bad.

I didn't think this was anime fanart. Anime style, obviously, but those look like Homestuck characters to me.

I won't comment on anime or manga, but it is kind of hilarious how few shits most Japanese fanartists/fanauthors give about cultural authenticity/accuracy when they're creating for a Western fandom. Even the few who bother with research can't seem to wrap their heads around the absence of the senpai/kouhai system (in work, school, or otherwise), for example, and shoehorn it in when it's hilariously out of place.

It's not like Western fans are much better about Japanese fandoms, but lol, sometimes people like to pretend that Western fans are unique in their not giving a shit/getting cultural things terribly wrong, and they so very aren't.

Oh lawd every fandom ever. Mine are primarily military, but if a character is a year older than another character, even if they're the same rank, even if the younger one doesn't defer to the older one in the slightest in canon, in fic/comics he'll suddenly be all polite and comically inept (and call him senpai) and the older one will be constantly looking after him (because that's what a good senpai does!). No matter how ridiculously OOC it happens to be. Do you read Japanese? There's plenty of that pixiv.

It's also hilarious as all get out to watch the Manliest American Army Men acting like teenaged Japanese boys, too. And eating Japanese Christmas cake. And going to public baths. And having the youngest one pour drinks for everybody. And buying beer out of vending machines. And weeping during sex.

I was rereading Matoh's Fake earlier today. A running gag is JJ flinging himself on Dee, calling "Dee-sempai!"

You also see a lot of this in Tiger & Bunny doujin.

They still draw the best (if utterly unrealistic) porn so I'd still read those. Unless someone cries during sex. Then I am out of there.

Even if I compare myself to the average anatomy fail fanartist, I will never be good at drawing good looking porn.

Agreed that there's some fan-fucking-tastic artists out there in Moon Country, but they'll make even the manliest dude start bawling if he's taking it up the ass.

I can handle a few judicious tears! I've even read a DJ or two where crying-during-sex was turned into an angsty plot point(!). It's that Flushed, Sobbing Uke Face I can't stand. You know the one.

Eh, most Nagisa/Rei doujinshi I've come across portray their dynamics as what can be expected from their interactions in canon, with Nagisa topping from the bottom and the two being really in love.

I'm a little surprised OP chose AKUTA of all people to pick reigisa doujinshi to baww about. I don't think Akuta's characterization is top-notch on-point, but all of the works of hers I've read have been set ~10 years in the future (including the one OP used), and I can see certain events leading up to Nagisa being a little more passive and less OTT than he is in canon? idk, it's not CRAZY OOC to me, and her art is beautiful and her sex tasteful.

I've seen much more horrible Reigisa fic/art/doujinshi, so...not sure this was the best example of "utter tripe" the Japanese fandom has put out for these two lol.
