Just wondering what everyone else has been doing and if any big events have flown under my radar. I haven't really had the time to hang out in any fandom spaces other than this one for a few months now, so I'm feeling a tad isolated. :(

I've been watching, but not participating in racism wank in Ever After High tag on Tumblr.

I'm probably going to regret asking, but what racism wank?

Mostly whether Cedar Wood actually qualifies as a POC because she's made of wood, and how if she does become a "real girl" Mattel is totally going to turn her white. Because all the real girls are while, even though there are POC back ground characters.

One person on there had a shittastic, anonymous, racist troll going at them in their ask box.

It's just kind of become a clusterfuck over about the past two days.

There is also the debate where Briar Beauty may or may not be POC.

Destiel blew its top because Jensen said he and Misha don't play their characters as being lovers. He also said the fandom was kind of getting out of hand in a way. Which really? I don't think these people realize that Jensen isn't even a fandom person, so a bunch of people obsessing over something like this is probably going to freak him out. I think people who grew up with fandoms seem to take them for granted, and don't realize the whole world isn't aware of what shipping is, or that you being ~super supportive of your babies~ comes off as being sort of extreme to people not in the know.

I also lol'd so hard at the ones calling him homophobic. He's played a Bisexual character before. ~~Don't get me started on the fans who think they ~know~ his character better than he does, even though he's been playing him for oh, nine years at this point?~~

I honestly don't understand SPN/Destiel fandom's need to throw themselves under the bus constantly. None of the actors are going to be like: YES, WE WANT DEAN AND CAS 2 BANG 5EVAH, THEY ARE SUPER DUPER IN LOVE XOXOXOXO. It's never going to happen, but they keep going to cons and asking these questions and then being shocked when the cast (esp. JA, who seems super private) are like WHAT? NO? LEAVE ME ALONE.

(full disclosure, I ship destiel. i just do it...for myself, not the entirety of tumblr)

Isn't it a rule not to ask relationship questions to him at cons, but they do it anyway? I think he did it in a pretty respectful manner, IMO

Oh, could they just go away already? The solution to better representation for LGBT* people isn't harassing professional actors at every con about popular headcanons.

MLP:FIM had its season finale, and to combat a new threat, the Mane Six basically went Super Saiyan:

This pretty much sums up fans' response.

I loved that ending. It was so Sailor Moon-esque AND annoyed the /mlp people.

I'm just here to aww over their designs.

Oh my god, they look ridiculous and fantastic. I love it.

I'm not happy about the additional colours in Fluttershy's and Applejack's mane - but I just hate orange and pink together. Other than that, I think it's cute. (And damn it I can't get one of the season finale songs out of my head).

I don't like the yellow with the purple on Rarity(and that's purely personal aesthetic), but they look amazingly sparkly. Gogo Saiyan ponies!

omg is this for real. It's like an artist vomited sparkles and rainbows on all of the characters. They look ridiculously stupid. Kids show, I know, but omg.

/watched and enjoyed the first two seasons of MLP, but clearly made an okay choice not continuing. lol

(also lol, poor Rainbow Dash doesn't get those tween color hair extensions?)

Awww, it's SUPER CUTE. Like, ridiculously cute.

That said, pretty sure they only did it to make more toys.

Holy shit, I actually chuckled out loud. I mean hey, magical girls are supposed to get wardrobe upgrades anyway, it's like a tradition. The hair colour streaks look pretty cool but why do they have all of these extra cutie marks on their hooves? Those look weird to me.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but two members of the JPop group AKB48 were attacked at a fan event. This is basically making the whole JPop fandom, both in Japan and elsewhere, consider safety and these fan events. I'm going to a JPop convention in less than three weeks, and they just upped security for the musical guests who are attending. Half the people see a bag check as reasonable, the other half think this is terrible and awful. It's just not good.

Also, OUAT fandom; there's a big discussion as to whether the Hook/Emma ship promotes rape culture or not. Personally I don't think it does, but it's getting pretty heated. So half of the fandom is really excited about this ship, and the other half hates it, pretty much.

I stopped watching after the first season, but I'm curious - how exactly are people saying the ship promotes rape culture?

Jack White had some emails (or something or other) that he wrote to his lawyer leaked out and then later in a Rolling Stones article go in further about how he didn't like The Black Keys because they're TOTALLY copying Jack White and totes acting as if they're the ones who did it first when everybody KNOWS that it was really Jack White. He came out with an apology yesterday basically saying he didn't MEAN it like that, and that things were taken out of context. He actually is rooting for and respects the Black Keys and any other artists out there (because he had mentioned Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Iggy Azelea) making music.

A lot of Black Keys fans are pissed and a lot of White Stripes fans are saying that the Black Keys are assholes who steal other bands' music so it's not like Jack White is wrong. Oh right, the drummer from the Black Keys more or less was like, "I'm friends with a lot of musicians but there's this ONE GUY WHO I WON'T NAME that is definitely NOT my friend."

And I'm feeling like the only person who likes both bands but can see that all of these guys are all tripping on their ego a bit too much and I JUST MISS MEG OK!

But yeah, the whole thing came off so much like kids in high school fighting over nothing, really. I love Jack White, don't get me wrong I think he's so creative and talented, but his mouth has gotten him in trouble a few times. As for the Black Keys, I like their music a lot, but they have come off a little dick-ish at times as well.

I think as long as they're not blatantly terrible people, I won't stop liking or listening to these guys' music. You don't have to like the people they are to enjoy their music, right?

The "Women Destroy Science Fiction" issue of Lightspeed just went out to subscribers, with stories scheduled for release over the next two weeks.
