Good News Thread!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2014-06-17 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I am one pound away from my first big weight loss goal (which will put me at 60 lbs lost since the beginning of the year). So I am super excited, especially since I had a very lazy weekend and didn't work out like I should.

So let me hear what good news you all have had recently (can be as big as winning a million dollars or as little as finding a $20 on the street).

LET US ALL CELEBRATE GOOD THINGS!

I'm almost at 10 kg with my weight loss (whatever that is in pounds) If all goes well I'll get there by the end of the week.

Tomorrow is my first anniversary with my girlfriend. Unfortunately I won't get to see her but this weekend I'll be staying at her place and then bringing her back home with me so we can go to a restaurant that's sort of a local tradition around here. It's only open in the summer and all through high school a bunch of people would skip school on the day it opened.

Oh that is a really cool tradition. What kind of restaurant is it?

Congratulations, that's awesome.

So bear with me a bit, because this is bad news that turns into good news eventually.

My SIL is a manipulative, emotionally abusive, all around terrible person. She has destroyed my BIL's (my husband's brother) self-esteem, has made his home life incredibly stressful, and just overall been completely awful to him since they got married. They already have one kid, with one more on the way. They've been to marriage counseling, but she stopped going once the therapist stopped siding with her and actually started seeing my BIL's point of view.

So anyway...he has told my husband (his big brother) all his troubles, but has told him not to tell me because he's afraid I'll tell his parents...which is laughable, as I'm not even on speaking terms with his parents ATM, but he doesn't know that. Of course, my husband has told me everything, but I've held my tongue. But he came over last night essentially carting his valuables out of his home and having us store them for him so that his evil wife doesn't sell them.

At this point, I'd had enough and asked if he'd lawyered up. He and I got into a fairly good conversation and I told him that he deserved better, but he also got really overwhelmed because my husband and I were both talking to him. He felt like we were "ganging up" on him and he stormed out. I felt awful.

Fast forward to today. He and my husband had an hour-long conversation after BIL went to the therapist, and are on for lunch tomorrow. I feel very good about this. He really, really deserves better and also needs someone to talk to.

I am glad your BIL didn't stay mad! I know how hard it can be to deal with something like that (my sister's ex was an abusive asshole). I hope he gets the help he needs (and that he hopefully will with your support).

I'm pretty much done with school and I'm heading out to RISD after a hopefully relaxing summer with no big plans. My next few months are looking pretty nice, I hope.

What is RISD? Googling had multiple results.

Thank you!

Is that a very hard instrument to play? How did you find someone who knows how to play it (I don't think I have ever seen one in person).

Congrats!

I applied to a job less than a week ago, and have already gotten through two interviews. The more I talk to them, the more ideal it sounds for me, and the more it seems like I actually have an applicable skillset. So I'm really hopeful that this will work out.

And my boyfriend found out he has an in in his field in the same general area, so our plan to move in together may actually dovetail with job relocations!

Oh, wow. That is like a good news Trifecta! I hope all three things play out in your favor.

I was gonna add a Hunger Games gif, but that seemed a bit morbid. :P

I'm so glad you posted this b/c I wanted to ask you what your workout routine is? And did you start dieting or cutting back at all? I would like to lose around 60lbs and it's so difficult. ;3;

Oh and as for good news, hmmmm. My mom's cat seems to be doing better now that she's on antibiotics. ;3; (good news has been pretty rare around here lately)

D: What was wrong with the kitty?

And as for me, I mostly walk on the treadmill. I am up to 3mph with a 5.0% incline (whatever that means). I try and do at least 20 minutes. It also helps to carry weights as a bit of an extra workout. Hopefully, I'll be able to figure out a strength training routine. A really big help for me is that I move so much as work.

And I have not really dieted. I only drink one diet soda a week now (during Sunday dinner) and stick to water (with some flavor addin).

Portion control is very important. I almost never get seconds anymore. I still eat icecream every night but I eat a small bowl of it. I eat a smartone or something of the sort for lunch and some piece of fruit for breakfast. I usually have 2 snacks (either a caramel rice cake or some vegetable).

I don't calorie count because I am lazy but my sister does!

Congrats!

Found out today that I got the position I wanted that with my two other positions brings me up to what our board considers full time. It means I'll be running three elementary school libraries but I'll manage.

Congrats on your weight loss!

My mom won concert tickets to a concert she and I had been debating buying tickets to see so we are both excited to go. There are three artists and by the time we go to the concert, I'll have seen all of them. I love two of them and cannot wait to go!

Lessee, I have been walking regularly since I got home, so I already feel healthier! I've also been in a generally good mood lately for a lot of really small reasons that stacked up. :3

I've got good news and bad news..

Good - I got an A in a subject I thought I'd do horrible at.
Bad - I got a B- in a subject I was so confident I'd do great at.

So I'm in a normal mood now, haha. I seriously deserved a better mark than a freggin B-, though, ugh. -_-

pantswarrior: Seven declares that fun may commence. (fun fun fun fun)

After a couple days trying out a severely restricted (and still experimental, from a medical standpoint) diet, I started seeing some improvement in my GI symptoms that have persisted for three years. I thought it might just be a coincidence or the placebo effect, although I'd seen some commentary to the effect that one might see improvement in as little as a week. But then I was googling for whether or not I could safely eat strawberries (answer boiled down to "maybe, maybe not" :P) and came across a blog where someone else was talking about having just started this diet, and the comments were full of people going "Good luck! I started feeling better almost immediately!" and a lot of them seemed to have results within 3-5 days. Which is when I started seeing results. And they've stuck around now for a week - even my "bad health day" yesterday was not that much worse than what a "good health day" was a few weeks ago!

I mean, despite the "bad health day" I still managed to take one of my sick bunnies to the vet, which resulted in more good news - despite the other sick bunny having something dangerous and contagious confirmed last week, this one seems to just have a simple respiratory infection, which means that this appointment/round of meds cost $200 less than the one for the other bun, AND I don't need to worry so much about him. =)
