You... must not watch a lot of cartoons.

...Why...?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-22 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Why, because she isn't conventionally feminine? Because she fights and is muscular body? Because she doesn't wear makeup or dresses?

She has a boyfriend, she's attracted to him. She loves him. I don't get how that is "not heterosexual" to you.

Is this an invocation of the "tough girl = lesbian" stereotype? Because awkward.

i really hope you're not saying that just because she's a tough, masculine girl

(Anonymous) 2014-06-22 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Wishful thinking does not a lesbian make (or there would be a trail of converts around me).

You mean that even if all 4 korrasami shippers out there wish as hard as possible it still won't make our ship canon? :'(

That came out of no where, didn't it? One moment, they were giving us teasers and then BOOM! It's here. The marketing for this show is so odd.

This secret is stupid. But, fuck, do I wish she really were gay or bi.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-22 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, I think branding all gender-non-conforming females as lesbians is really shitty. A masculine/butch personality in women does not equal gay any more than feminine equals straight. Stop it.

Why...because she's "butch" looking, and has a temper, and can hold herself in a fight? I have news for you: none of that is evidence of non-heterosexuality.

Obviously you haven't watched Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-22 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You sound like a homophobic AND a heterophobic piece of shit, because I can think of no other reason for that line of deduction than "muscular fighting girl = not straight". Gross, OP. Feel bad.

Agree and Disagree with OP

(Anonymous) 2014-06-22 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't agree that Korra is unconvincing as a heterosexual character. That being said, I ship her with Asami because I can't STAND Mako and I think Bolin is boring (he's just comic relief…). I actually thought Asami was interesting due to her problems with her father and I felt bad for how terribly Mako treated her. She and Korra are cute together.

Then again, I stopped watching the show after the first season and the first episode of Season 2. I just couldn't get into the writing.

But I still like looking up fan art and fan fiction of these two.

*shrugs*

To me, all characters (cartoon or live action) are bisexual until explicitly proven otherwise. Fandom just isn't as fun unless I can ship everyone/everyone.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2014-06-22 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I found Korra to be just unconvincing.

[personal profile] meishuu 2014-06-23 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
...Why?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-23 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'm beginning to feel this way about a lot of characters. Korra's feelings for Mako seem kind of contrived/fabricated, while her chemistry with Asami seems so much more natural. I think it's just bad writing and writers trying to "tell not show" that Character X likes Character Y. It ends up coming off like the characters are just latching onto someone random of the opposite sex rather than feeling like they're actually legitimately attracted to that person.

Similarly, I have a hard time buying Regina and Emma from OUAT as heterosexual. It always seems like they're putting on a show of having tension with random guy X, although (again) that's probably just bad writing.

I know this makes me sound like I'm a hardcore Korrasami or Swan Queen shipper, but I actually only very casually ship either. It's just that I think those ships work better than the ships the writers actually think they're writing. Or put another way, if the writers ended up wanting to make either of those ships a thing, the foundation they've already built would be more conducive to a convincing relationship than most of the canon ships they've tried building up.
