Do you stan for any characters? Which ones and why?

I go through cycles of them. Right now it would be Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. A year ago it would have been Castiel. It is all based on what my current fandom obsession it. Though, I am a Vegeta stan for life.

Right now, I'm stanning for Vanessa Ives from Penny Dreadful. I JUST WANT HER TO GET THROUGH IT ALL OKAY.

I KNOW. I want to get her away from Malcolm! And I want Ethan to be a werewolf already! But mostly I want Vanessa to be okay and not be having demon-issues anymore.

When you suffer abuse at the hands of your guardian who basically ruined your family around you and then use her own money to bring her down and never stop trying - yeah!

Levi from Attack on Titan.

I think he's a cool character, and I personally like him a lot, and the way certain sections of the fandom act towards him is ridiculous in my opinion. Like, they'll go on and on about how he's the most evil and abusive character in the show, and then be huge fans of Reiner and Bertholdt (the people responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of people), or Hange (creepy scientist who got really into torture and is barely empathetic) etc.
People can't comprehend grey morality, apparently.

Then again, this is tumblr, where you are either a Saint Sent From Above or Lucifer Himself. There is no middle ground.

Personally, I think a lot of the over-the-top hate Levi gets in sections of the fandom is pretty much just backlash from him being so popular and obsessively stanned everywhere. It's unfair, but I guess expected.
Aw, why do you say that Hanji lacks empathy? I'd say she's actually a very empathetic character, and is usually pretty observant about the people around her. (And she did get into the torture, but I'd say a lot of her enthusiasm for it came from the fact that she was incredibly upset about Pastor Nick's death, and was essentially looking for retaliation.)

Ha, yeah. I do now. If you would've asked two days ago I would've said no, but some recent character hate made it hard to ignore the fact that I'm def a stan for Londo Mollari from Babylon 5. And if one can be a stan for a relationship, his and G'Kar's canon relationship (not the ship, but their canon friendship). I guess that makes my a stan for. G'Kar too, by extension. I must now resist the urge to reply to obvious wank bait (people reblogging my posts and adding snide and inaccurate comments.)

Stephanie Brown. I'll fight anyone who hates her. Dan Didio? I can take him.

I'm too lazy and too shy to defend characters with any sort of passion, but if I did stan, it would be for Yuna from FFX/X-2. And maybe Noel from Blazblue.

It depends. I'll stan for Buffy when I see her being bashed. Because I just don't get Buffy bashing. At all. Also Neville Longbottom. Lately it's been Lily Aldrin because I didn't realize until recently that she gets a lot of hate.

Really any character I see being bashed, even if they aren't my favorite characters. LIke, I wouldn't say any of the Weasleys are among my favorite characters, but the bashing of them really irritates me. Rational reasons for disliking a character, fine. But made up or exaggerated things that have nothing to do with the actual character not cool.

Seconding all these three. And I too have the impulse to defend any character who gets bashed -- often, even ones I started out being neutral towards will suddenly shoot way up in my estimation when I see them get bashed, because the bashing just highlights their good points to me by omission.

I just realized, due to this thread, that I totally stan for Shallan from 'The Stormlight Archive.'

Why? Because I love her, despite her corny jokes. And because many of the people who dismiss her as a Mary Sue can only sustain their argument by completely ignoring the world's magic system.

Thooooor. Always Thor, because he is so under-appreciated and is used to be the butt of jokes or CAPSLOCK IDIOT, which just grinds my gears.

No. Stop it. You are not allowed to write Thor if you cannot handle the responsibility, give him back.

I will also stan for any of the current crop of MCU characters given the chance too because I love them all.

Also Vegeta and Bulma forever and always.

Castiel and Anna Milton, separately or together in any configuration. Cas is just the perfect blend of mysterious otherworldly badass and awkward huggable woobie, all wrapped up in blue-eyed trench-coated hotness. And Anna was into the whole Free Will thing and sticking it to The Man before it was cool. (Plus she brought out Dean's most adorkable bashful-little-boy side, and it was awesome.)

Basically all the Princess Zeldas, but especially OoT and ST. I can literally write essays on why OoT Zelda is precious and must be protected. More recently, I've posted vaguely stannish things for both Sycamore and Lysandre for Pokemon XY (no, Sycamore is not a ditzy airhead who became Professor due to his looks, no, Lysandre is not a one-dimensional EEEEVIL antagonist and nothing else but), and tend to defend most female Pokemon characters when they get bashed on places like /vp/, particularly Shauna, Bianca, and Iris.

(Especially Shauna, who tends to get two reactions from there - 'worse than useless' or 'want to fuck her', and I'm the one basically going, "Hi, can't you respect her as an actual character who shows development and is sunny and cheerful and vibrant and is doing exactly what Sycamore told them to do and is going on an adventure for her own enjoyment and betterment and is growing from it?" and. Well, yes, I stan for Shauna.)

Oleg Kirrlov.

Sam and Sybil Vimes and Cinderella. The first two because I love them and can talk about them, their relationship, and their relationship with Vetinari a lot. The latter because I get strangely angry when people go on about how weak the early Disney princesses are. Yes, Snow and Aurora were not great, but I will defend Cindy to the death.

I Stan for Sebastian Stan.

No, seriously. I barely even like Kings but I'm watching the whole damn thing because he's occasionally in it. I'm actually planning on watching The Covenant despite everyone telling me what a terrible movie it is.

It's getting ridiculous.

ETA: To answer the actual question, though, I really do love Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers. :D
