... I don't really understand how that makes you a terrible fan. Next to nothing had been revealed about him or Reiner until short before the big reveal so it's not like Hisayama was actively trying to make the readers love them before that. I actually got a lot more interested in them, too, after that and the titan shifters rapidly become my fav characters. They are so much more interesting than the rest of the cast, for me.

He had some great minor scenes in Utgard, especially if you know that he's a shifter. There are so many things that I didn't notice the first time I read those chapters, like Bertl almost biting when the titans were attacking them.

Is there anyone out there who doesn't know that Bertolt is the Colossal Titan, Reiner the Armored Titan, the walls are titans and titans are actually humans?

That was probably the intended reaction to the character. Him and Reiner are those two dudes who aren't really worth being very interested in (well, Reiner is rather more interesting than Bertolt, whose existence is pretty much entirely background noise) up until the moment of the reveal. It's supposed to shock you and catch you off your guard.

Personally, I don't really understand how you can consider him your favorite... A character has to have way more development than he does (due in part to that near-total absence of screen/page presence!) for me to like them. But hey, different strokes!

This secret needs a spoiler warning on it!

It would be nice if more people understood that not everyone has read all of (or, in my case, any of) the manga yet. Hell, I don't even know where people read what isn't legitimately published in English to begin with, and I don't own anything beyond the first three volumes because I'm unemployed and manga isn't exactly a priority for me right now.

As it is, I HAD been pretty good at avoiding AoT manga spoilers thanks to friends and other people who were considerate about warning for them, but then you came along.

All this spoiler rage reminds me of 7 or 8 years ago when some people threw a tantrum because a secret spoiled Kamina's death.

I always payed attention to him because he's so moe~

But to be fair, he's not really on the radar that much in the beginning, so don't feel badly for only liking him after the reveal. I know it made me do a huge double-take when I first found out, to the point where I went back to re-analyze every scene he's in.

There wasn't a lot to pay attention to, just a lot of sweating in the background. In this series you never know if a background character is going to die or become a prominent player.

I don't think anybody would have cared for him if he wasn't the Colossal Titan to be honest, it gives him a lot of depth because Colossal titan was the first big thing we see then we find out who it is and he doesn't seem as threatening. I really want to know more about Reiner/Bert/Annie/Ymir's past now. Bert is like the symbol of SnK and a lot of people don't even know it (I mean those who didn't have the manga spoiled for them).

Kinda OT but I'm surprised Ymir and Krista seem to be pretty popular amongst fans since they didn't get much screen time in the anime and most SnK fans I've come across are anime-only, which sucks because I need more people to talk about the manga with.

[[[ Even more OT but I'm such a manga elitist because of how freaking different Mikasa is in anime compared to manga. I hate how everyone talks about how Eren obsessed Mikasa is but they really exaggerated it in the anime more-so than the manga. In the anime they made her take Eren and run leaving Armin behind for canon fire, which did not happen in the manga. In the anime the last episode against the Female Titan pretty much made her into a yandere where all her dialogue was EREN EREN EREN, whereas in the manga she was also motivated by guilt of causing Levi's injury and she wanted to make up for him not being able to fight. And worst of all turned the scarring on her wrist into a freaking embroidery pattern, wtf. So yeah, I'm bitter about the anime because that is the version people I talk to tend to go with. Can't talk about Historia and Ymir with them either ]]]
