Hating a rival character who 'gets in the way'. I haaaate that.

My OTP in Zelda fandom (for Ocarina of Time, specifically) is Link/Sheik (with Sheik as a separate character, yes yes I know), but the biggest ship is Zelda/Link. (I actually do like Zelda/Link, and REALLY like Zelda/Sheik, and all three in an OT3, but that's neither here nor there.) Ocarina Zelda is my favourite character in the entire series.

There is SO MUCH Zelda-bashing amongst other Link/Sheik fans that people think that because I ship it, I must hate Zelda as well, when Zelda-bashing is literally the fastest way to make me backspace the hell out of a fic. She's my gorgeous queen, can my fellow Link/Sheik fans PLEASE stop attacking her? ;_;

(Come to think of it, I'd also REALLY like people to stop saying they prefer separate Sheik "because he's a cool badass ninja and she's a useless Princess!", because fuck no she's amazing just as she is and Sheik is kind of a giant dork at times - lol jumping into a lake to make a ~dramatic escape~ - and there are SIGNIFICANTLY better reasons to interpret them as separate characters, but that's not really shipping-related.)

So, I know for the purposes of shipping you interpret them as different, and that's fine by me...but for the purposes of this rant...

Oh god people who hate Zelda because they ship Link/Sheik. They're the same fucking person! How is this getting past you? THEY'RE THE SAME PERSON. Not some alternate reality different person THE LITERAL SAME BEING BUT ONE IS WEARING FACE BANDAIDS.

Sheik is the useful one? Okay, yeah, Sheik teaches Link the different songs... but Zelda is the one who ultimately uses her power as a Sage to defeat Ganon. On a scale of which was more important, I'd say Zelda is the winner and also btw we never see Sheik do anything combative. She runs away super good, that's her skill.

But, hey, if it makes you feel better, it's not that Link/Sheik shippers are like this because they are Link/Sheik shippers. The craziness of a ship approaches critical mass the more unlikely and not canon it actually is, multiplied by popularity. So ships that concern a character that basically doesn't exist? Max crazy. Same reason why Zutarans and Harmonians were nuts. Their ship seemed less and less possible as time went on, and they compensated.

I don't interpret Sheik as a different character for shipping, I interpret Sheik as a different character because that's at least canon for the manga and isn't disproven by the game.

Also, almost definitely not 'the literal same being but one is wearing face bandaids', given how radically different their builds, heights, eyebrow shape, eye shape, eyelashes, iris size, nose, mouths, skin colour, hair colour, and hair style are. Even if you do see them as the same character, it's undeniable that there's a magical transformation going on, and people who go ~ooh Zelda wouldn't grow a dick that's icky she's just dressing up~ are generally immature and also lack understanding of canon. *shrug*
