Well, the franchise itself has your back.

I finally saw this movie last week and enjoyed it. I thought the main focus was on the title characters. The sisters' relationship felt like a subplot to me.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-08 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Cuz it WAS. It was an important subplot, but it built up family as an unit of people rather than a peculiar bond between sisters, and'finding' family even when it's not traditional.

The rest of the spin-offs focused mostly on Lilo and Stitch's adventures.

Yeah, it is. I mean, it's great they worked out the characters like that, but some parts of fandom have an almost unhealthy obsession over it.

They do it so they can completely dismiss and discredit Frozen. It may not have been a perfect movie, but of the two, Frozen IS the sister movie.

I seem to recall this from even before Frozen was made, but it would explain the rekindled interest in it lately.

Yeah...I mean, it's okay not to like things and all that but even if something's oversaturated like Frozen is, there's no real reason to go to such lengths to "prove" that it sucks, especially when it, y'know, objectively doesn't. It ain't the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it DID focus way the heck more on the sister relationship than Lilo & Stitch did.

It's A sister movie. I'm not sure why it has to be THE sister movie. I wouldn't describe either one as THE sister movie. I like the sister dynamic in both and I look forward to seeing more. But when Frozen fans say that Frozen is innovative because it's the first to feature sisters, that's just factually wrong and I'm not sure why it's bad to point that out.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for siblings being cool, but I'm really sick of how much tumblr praises this movie like it's the best depiction ever. As people are saying, it was a subplot. The actual plot of the movie was a girl becoming friends with a cute alien. I watched the movie for the cute alien. Why is everyone forgetting about the cute alien?

Tumblr completely ruins things. There are so many movies, games, etc. that I was neutral about, but the over-obsessive people on tumblr make me hate them because no one knows when to stop beating a dead horse (or shut up about unfunny jokes). I really liked the humor in Shrek 2 but now any time I see anything from that franchise I roll my eyes so hard they practically get stuck like that.

Blacklist the stuff you like?

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-07-09 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, I don't really go on Tumblr much, anyway, for very much this reason, so I don't use any extensions or anything, and I'm pretty good at just ignoring shit on Tumblr, anyway. That said, if you are on Tumblr enough for things like this to pop-up, just blacklist the stuff which you like but aren't really part of the (Tumblr) fandom for. You can enjoy it every now and then at your leisure, but ultimately not have it ruined for it. :)

Re: Blacklist the stuff you like?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I would, but it doesn't work for people who don't tag things. One particular person I mutual with posts enough unfunny junk that I've just blacklisted their username since they're too lazy to tag (I'd unfollow but that's another kettle of fish I don't want to deal with DX).

But thanks, I'll try to notice trends of things people are being dumb about and blacklist it before anything gets ruined for me. I've never even thought about blacklisting things I'm ok with just for the sake of saving it from being ruined.

Ah, yes, the anti-taggers. Even though I don't blacklist things by virtue of my computer not playing nice with extensions, I pay attention to whether or not people tag. And I'm not going to lie, if a blogger doesn't tag in a reasonably useful manner (basic things like a fandom, or character, or pairing), then I automatically look down on them, and will be less likely to follow them and/or more likely to unfollow them down the road.

Why are you on tumblr then? Honest question. It sounds like it's doing a lot of negative stuff for you.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I like looking at all of the pretty fanart and talking with other people in my many small fandoms. It's just there's a lot of junk on tumblr I could do without. The people I'm friends with on there have the same stance on things I do; likes the art and friendly discussions, hates the dumb memes and "tumblr attitude."

forgetting Stitch? noooo

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think we are? Didn't I read some meta comparing Stitch to Bucky Barnes right after CATWS came out?

Neither movie is only about sisters.

I think Lilo & Stitch fans probably would have just rolled their eyes at kids not remembering L&S, but the SJ crowd latched onto it as another reason somebody, somewhere supposedly despises people who aren't pale blond types, so they could have a SJW rant about it.

And L&S fans really love Lilo & Stitch, so the tumblr posts got reblogged by people (like me) who know better (the kids today just don't remember L&S, it's not really a racist thing) because WE WANT U TO SEE THIS COOL MOVIE OK?

Stich, his relationship with Lilo, and partly the relationship between sisters, are why I adore that movie. But Stitch is the main part~
nyxelestia: Rose Icon (Default)

He doesn't serve anyone's social justice agenda.

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-07-09 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's why he doesn't get as much love as Lilo, or Lilo & Nani.

But I am with you, OP - I loved Stitch (probably my favorite non-human Disney character ever, and one of my top five total), and I'm a little sad he didn't get more love, myself. Maybe, at least, less love = less attention = less rabid fangirling turning you or other people off of him/souring him to you? *hopeful eyes*

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I focus on the sister part because Stitch and that storyline annoy me to no end. The (very) subplot of the sisters is what keeps me watching the movie...

Why, if I may ask? /curious

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad it's not just me. When I first saw it, I felt like I was just watching a version of The Iron Giant with more slapstick. But the complicated relationship between the sisters felt so real and emotional to me that it overcame my urge to just go put The Iron Giant back in. :)

Same here.

I get that he was supposed to be cute and destructive but he was made *too* destructive. Like, with social services involved and Lilo potentially going to be taken away and thrown in a foster home, I spent the whole movie angry and annoyed and just wishing Stitch would go away. As someone with friends who were in the foster care system and knowing what the system is like through them, it wasn't cute or funny. It was terrifying and rage-making. I think that's why some people might put more into the Lilo/Nani storyline; it just seemed like Stitch coming in further disrupted their lives, in a bad way, instead of made it better (until maybe the last 10 minutes of the film).

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm always amazed at how many people like him, who even think he's cute. To me, he looks like something you'd see in that hotel in The Shining, not in a kids' movie. My hat's off to you and anyone else (especially kids) who could watch him for any length of time and not be creeped way the hell out. *shiver*

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
This is how I feel about ET. Can barely stand to look at it for too long.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten.

That's it. That's what the movie's about. It's about them gaining a new family member in the form of a little blue fuzzball alien and fighting to stay together. It's not a sisters vs. Stitch&Lilo thing.
