People actually compare Snowing to Captain Swan??? They don't share a single similarity, wtf. Snow and Charming are almost unhealthily dependent on each other and would (probably) kill for one another if it came down to it.

Captain Swan is just... Hook being a charismatic but still complete asshole while Emma just wants to be left the fuck alone (and understandably so).

And I hope the show doesn't go the "soulmates/true love" route with Captain Swan because god Hook is above and beyond not close to anything Emma deserves and it'd be a trainwreck. They already did it with Regina and Robin and look what's happened.

Also someone PLEASE tell the writers it's okay to give Hook a different outfit. Does he even bathe? Or wash his clothes? There's no excuse for him not to have changed into modern clothing, especially since he's apparently shacking up with Emma now.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-14 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
He's a pirate. They don't really bathe.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-14 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
for some reason I watched lots of youtube videos of captain swan today and they are so fucking hot. I stopped watching show in the middle of s2 so I don't know the context of those scenes but love the chemistry as far as I can see

also charmings suck. their I!ll find you I!ll come back etc became so annoying after 5 episodes. not a fan of them

(Anonymous) 2014-07-14 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
emma and hook share some nice scenes but their relationship is so forced, at least on emma's part. hook was pretty much regulated to "angsty woobie whose only purpose is to be the angsty love interest that doesn't understand no" in s3.

sucks.

tbf i'd totally be down with emma and hook if their relationship was just "hot fuckbuddies" but the show is actually trying to force a legit romance into it and it doesn't work.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-14 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't stand the Charmings because both actors are horrible. I only watch for Rumple and Regina.

I agree. Not a huge fan of either pairing (loath Captain Swan and often find Snowing boring), but comparing them doesn't work at all. They are nothing alike. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing since not all romances are alike. The problem is that Captain Swan is badly written.

Then again, at this point the only pairing on the show I actually liked by the end of last season has now probably split up and the other things I like are fanon-only.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-14 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Snowing had far more chemistry at their beginning in Snow Falls than Captain Swan has had in an entire season

(Anonymous) 2014-07-14 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I'd like Snow/Charming so much more if I didn't want to throw Mary Margaret down a well.

Still haven't caught up with this show, oops.

(At this point I'm wondering if I should...)

Anyway, I wasn't liking Hook/Emma at all because her romantic interest in him felt very sudden (also Hook irritates me; the way he treated Emma when they first met put me off the pairing), but I am not that angry about it. I'll just...ignore it, I guess. (Or stop watching, whatever.)

Snow and Charming are adorable and it's nice to see a happily married couple on tv that work through their problems and don't feel totally forced. (Which, well, is a matter of opinion, but that's mine.)

(At this point I'm wondering if I should...)

IMO, it's not worth it. The writing went down the drain during the 2nd part of season 2 and season 3 starts off as promising, but it just gave the OUAT fans a mixed bag of results (plus ABC being part of Disney, wants to reel in a certain ice movie as a cash cow to lure fans back into the series though that was a spoiler...opps). Plus, as you've said, Hook irritates me, especially the way he treated Emma and the way the writers really forced the whole relationship, made me a tad uncomfortable.

For me, I've just stopped watching and moved on to other things.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed, 100% not worth it. I was a huge fan of this show and I was willing to overlook a lot of things, but it got worse and worse and the S3 finale sealed the deal that it was never going to get better. )8

I keep wanting to give it up and keep getting dragged back in. I really liked the second season 3 arc and a lot of things about that part of the season (pretty much everything apart from the Hook/Emma stuff and the Emma keeping Henry from his memories and wanting to take him back to NY and generally being unlikeable parts). But then the season 3 final was awful. So I might give it up. But it might drag me back in again.

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-07-15 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen all but around four episodes of season 3, I think, but I'm just completely unmotivated to finish it up. I even have the episodes on my DVR so I should just to know what the hell is going on and judge it for myself, but it's taking a while for me to work up to it.

Had season three had a lot more Mulan or Aurora, and a lot less Hook and Zelena I would probably dig it more. The only current romantic relationship I enjoy is Snow/Charming (and I actively dislike the others), so...this season was disappointing for me.

Not sure if it's just me, but Zelena was not in the least a compelling villain either, so that hurt this season too.

You didn't spoil me, either, btw; I had heard about Elsa. That might be the only reason I want to catch up, tbh. (And I'm not a massive Frozen fan either, but...I'm curious.)

If the actor for Niel was "hotter" than the actor for Hook, it wouldn't have become a thing, trust me. They did it for failing ratings, nothing more. It's pretty sad, that and the upcoming "Evil" queen Elsa bullshit.

To hear you say that makes me sad. :/ (But I can tell you're a fellow fan, so I feel your pain.)

I find Niel's actor all kinds of adorable and (more importantly) think he brought an earnestness to the show that very few others have. He's such a good actor; he blended into the setting in a way no one else did.

Maybe Elsa won't truly be evil? Who knows with this show. Even if she is, they could go the way or Regina and redeem her.

I haven't watched for a while but I can't believe Captain Swan is even a thing in canon. The flirting was one thing but I don't know why the writers would expect me to accept them as a romantic couple. If people want to ship them that's fine, but it needs to be acknowledged that they are messed up.

Then again this is the same show with Rumbelle, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised Captain Swan is becoming more of a thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
the worst part are the shippers who refuse to acknowledge how bad hook/emma is

and the fact the actor described hook as a sociopath

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
God, I remember during the endless Neverland arc Snow said to Charming, "We need to talk" one episode, and then the next Emma said the same thing to Hook, and the twop forums (rip) were filled with "omg endgame parallels!!!!!"

Because, you know, "we need to talk" is totally not a neutral, banal phrase that probably every character on that show has used at some point or another. Nope. It means that Emma loves Hook like Snow loves Charming.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Captain Swan only exists because of the fangirls, period. It was poorly written, terribly rushed, and jammed into the show so damn awkwardly.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
I have a feeling that Hook and Emma was planned to some degree. It's just that the writers have no idea what the fuck they're doing, rushed the entire thing (it'd only been a handful of episodes since Neal's death ffs), and the reality is... Emma and Hook are not compatible.

But they made it happen anyway because welp, Neal's dead and Hook is well received by the fangirls and there was no turning back at that point.

It makes you want to throw up that someone doesn't ship the way you do?

You may need to take a couple steps back, OP...

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
Have you ever met these shippers? Not the OP but I can understand that reaction tbh.

Hm, I guess I'm missing some major context here then...
