Do you have the WDCC figurine of him scheming in the chair? I want that damn thing so badly!

(Anonymous) 2014-07-23 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I've been dying to get it but the damn thing is at least 600 dollars! It was either getting it or going to MNSSHP for the first time, and I ended up choosing the latter.

Someday, though, someday....

Well, like the song goes...

No one's slick as Gaston
No one's quick as Gaston
No one's neck is as incredibly thick as Gaston's
For there's no man in town half as manly
Perfect, a pure paragon!

So, I guess I can't blame you?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-23 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You are soooooo not alone, anon. To this day I've never related to any Disney character(s) more than the triplets (and have since I was 6 - when the movie came out.)

(Anonymous) 2014-07-23 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well you'd just be using him for his seed so I think that's okay.

In the biz we call that a meet-cute. Or maybe a meat-cute.

If no one else makes a rom-com with that in it (including tattoos, piercings, and mohawk) then I'm claiming this idea. MINE.

I'm so confused. He's gay, and Belle hates him, and then she's the love of his life? ???

hey....I realized today that I totally have a crush on a Fairly Oddparents villain with a posh accent, no judgement here bro.

Villain crushes are kinda common.

Why?

Different strokes and all, I'm just really curious: what's the appeal?

No one makes you have a husbando like Gaston.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
You have terrible tastes, I should introduce you to my ex. Seriously, though, he's not written as sympathetic but he's attractively drawn and voiced in the animated version and was very well cast in the stage production I saw. Enjoy whatever you enjoy, no reason for shame.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I understand the charm of big burly guys, it's just his personality that is the problem. But I could definitely see why someone would be attracted to guys like him on an aesthetic level.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-24 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who's grown up with Disney Renaissance (or whatever they called that surge of movies in the 90s) and feels like I'm missing something huge, can someone please explain what the appeal of Gaston is? I have next to no opinion on the guy, I'm just honestly curious. Is it because he's a hot asshole rival, though not the only Disney one I can think of? Because he's arguably way hotter than the male romantic lead of his movie who spends almost all his time as a beast anyway? (But then that doesn't explain why the Internet seems to cream themselves over Gaston far more than anything I've seen for the other Disney princes.)

In the same vein, what is it about Maleficent that makes her so great and different from, say, Ursula (who also has badass powers and selfish/destructive intentions)? Or even the Queen from Snow White? Or Cruella de Ville, who has no powers but still managed to fuck shit up without them? I know female villains aren't exactly thick on the ground with Disney, and I like Maleficent a lot, I'm just wondering why she got the movie over all these others and in general seems to be the most popular.

I think it's a few things.

Disney has a habit of making male villains that are more attractive or just more interesting than the princes. Not only do I like Gaston quite a lot, I also think Clayton from Tarzan was hot, though more obviously evil, while Tarzan was just a dumb ape-man. (Why didn't Tarzan have any facial or body hair?) And King Triton, while not a villain but just a mild antagonist, should have given Ariel a better idea of what a man looks like.

Yes, I have a muscle fetish. No fucking shame.

Gaston is ridiculously hot. My headcanon is that, had Belle and Gaston gotten to go on a stock rom-com adventure, they would have become an item with those six sons (or five sons and one daughter who outdoes daddy.)
