The guy on the left has really droopy eyes, like he's tired and keeps rubbing them. It's disturbing.

[personal profile] anonymous4 2014-08-21 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The nerves in his face were damaged by forceps when he was born.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-21 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The guy on the left has been a major movie actor for almost 40 years. You are not the first person to have noticed his droopy eyes, but thanks for trying.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
OP here. I wish I knew why people constantly keep harping on his looks, especially considering the story of his birth. I mean, it's cool if you don't find him attractive, everyone has different tastes and all -- but do you seriously have to say that it's "disturbing"? It's just a really rotten thing to say.

Ah, the dangers of premature shipping...

(Anonymous) 2014-08-21 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why I try really hard not to ship anything before I watch it.

Tumblr kind of makes it difficult, though, because even if you try to be really selective about who you follow, you'll inevitably get some media that crosses your dash from other fandoms.

I actually started shipping Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson before I saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier because of this.

Fortunately for me, the film *exceeded* my expectations so I've been in happy ship-land ever since. But it's definitely a gamble.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
OP here. I'm usually super-careful, too! Plus, it never made much sense to me, to ship ahead of time. I mean, at that point you usually don't know anything about the characters, aside from some very basic facts and their looks. Don't get me wrong -- it's totally cool if people want to ship just based on that, but it's not my thing.

Glad to hear it worked out for you, though!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-21 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
But - but - Barney/Christmas is everything you need in grumpy old man shipping! It's like an old married couple literally on steroids. Plus, you can always have Dolph Lundgren/Jet Li as your old man hateship in this series.

On this topic, I did think that Mel Gibson was super attractive in the final fight scene, which made me ashamed of myself. Stupid sexy terrible person Mel Gibson.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
OP here! To be honest, I'm actually a huuuge Gunner/Barney shipper. I can totally get behind Barney/Lee and Gunner/Yang though, but not to the point where I have tons of ideas for fics and so on, y'know? That's partly why I was so excited for the inclusion of Conrad Stonebanks -- I fully expected to come out of the cinema full of eagerness to write. And that just didn't happen :(

Ugh, I agree! I think Mel Gibson is a super-talented actor, and really damn attractive as well (old age suits him, and worked very well for the character as well). I just wish that final show-down had been longer...!

Oh no, gotta go Arnie/Jet Li on this one. That last bar scene was adorable.

Barney/Lee is everything I ever wanted. They are so perfect together.

(And yeah, Mel Gibson was disturbingly attractive in this role. WHAT THE FUCK, SELF?)

The third one just kinda felt... mish-mash to me. Like I'd seen it before, or it was culled from pieces of other action movies. I did love Antonio Banderas and Kelsey Grammar's characters, though, and Mel Gibson was freakin' scary.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I liked the second one more, but I didn't think the third one was mishmash exactly - or at least, anymore mishmash than the other two. Plus, lots of cute character moments as well, which are actually what the films hinge on, with action scenes draped over the top.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well when one of them is an anti - semetic Nazi...

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
OP here. Gee, I must've totally missed those scenes -- what tipped you off to it? Was it his love-hate for modern art? *rolls eyes*

Well, if the scene in the plane didn't do it for you, then it's not going to happen.

OT: I WAS SO EXCITED FOR RONDA ROUSEY IN THIS MOVIE.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
OP here. I liked the scene in the plane, I truly did! I still had high hopes at that point, but then... I dunno, it just kinda fizzled out for me? Ah, I don't know >:\ I look forward to getting it on DVD; maybe a re-watch is all I need (although I'm probably just getting ahead of myself again, argh).

I WAS TOO! I'm sad that so many people are complaining about her acting; I thought she did good. And her character was definitely my favorite among the kids.

Ronda Rousey was so fab in this! I offically stan for her, and I knew nothing about her before the movie. She is amazing and I really hope she's in the next one/ starts a stupid action movie franchise of her own.

I still have never managed to see any of these and I love several of the actors in them. One day.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-22 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
OP here. Oh man, you really should! I mean, obviously I love them a lot so I'm biased, but I genuinely do think they're good. Just keep in mind that the first movie has a director's cut that's quite different from the theatrical version. I like both versions for different reasons, so I'm not sure which one to recommend -- I guess basically, if you like the movie, I definitely think it's worth seeing both.

Also, if you think the first movie is too dark and gritty for your taste, don't give up! The second one is a lot lighter and more humorous. And the third is kind of a mix, I guess...? Anyway, I really hope you like them when/if you get around to watching! There's sadly not much of a fandom, but there are a couple of good fics to be had as well as some nice fanart over on Pixiv.

If you're interested, but not sold on watching these movies just for the actors involved, I would recommend watching the 2nd one first. If you don't like that, you definitely won't like the 3rd one or any further sequels they do because they perfect the tone in that one.

But they really are better if you watch the first one first, because it sets up all the characters nicely, especially Barney and Lee's relationship. And it has a great fight scene with Dolph Lundgren and Jet Li. Plus they all fight Steve Austin. Also it has Charisma Carpenter and Mickey Rourke. ALSO IT IS GREAT AND YOU SHOULD WATCH IT.

Write the fic anyway! After you've had a little time to get over the disappointment, if you find the ideas are still there and the stuff you wanted from the movie is still in your mind, write your old man slash and don't worry if it feels a little OOC or AU. It's all fiction anyway, and you're probably not the only person who wants to read it!

Oh, I feel your pain, OP. Although tbh I can't ship Barney with anyone except Lee because THEY ARE SO OBVIOUSLY MARRIED AND ATTACHED BY THE HIP. I was so surprised when I found out that more people ship Barney with Gunnar because that idea didn't even occur to me when I watched the movies.

Late but 'November Man' might be up your alley. Saw the preview for it for this movie. An old guy assassin trained a new younger guy. Younger guy now has to assassinate his teacher.
