Your most recently-watched movies?

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
What are the last couple of movies you've seen? What did you think about them? Are they newly released or old movies? Are you involved in any fandom for them or not?

I recently watched Gingersnaps and Gingersnaps 2. Really enjoyed them, though the ending to latter was a bit rage inducing. Any got recs for similar movies?

Disregarding the 6 times I've seen Guardians of the Galaxy this month alone, the only other movie I "saw" recently (aka I had to take someone to it) was Ninja Turtles.

The only positive thing I can say about it is that the opening/ending credits were somewhat well done. And maybe it might be better after 4-5 Jaegermeisters. And, no, I'm not involved in any fandom for it (or GOTG/MCU, for that matter), b/c I bailed from the NickTMNT fandom after feeling like an old lady in a Chuck-e-Cheese ballpit, hahaehhhhh.

I saw Guardians for the second time, still A+, though I'm pretty sure the sound in this better theater may have damaged my hearing in my left ear...

Also; I watched Divergent. Oh god.

Guardians of the Galaxy.
It's good, but flawed, as in there's hardly any setup about the nova/kree conflict, and some characters including Drax were a little flat.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Recently released on iTunes (although that's not where I saw it…)

I actually really liked it. I was rather surprised because I didn't much like the character at all in the Avengers. But it was an enjoyable movie. Might make a Marvel fan of me...

After recommending it a few days ago, re-watched Fifth Element. Have Let the Right One In and Beckett queued up to watch, but haven't got 'round to either.

Not in the fandom for any of those.

I saw Guardians of the Galaxy and Ninja Turtles recently. The main things I took from GotG was that Groot is sweeter than should ever be allowed and it was kind of weird to see Quill being beat up to Blue Swede ( aka Björn Skifs).

Ninja Turtles got me back into my old crush on Raphael and also the Raph/April bandwagon.
I'm very grateful that there wasn't some obligatory "X got the girl", though.

From very latest to digging back up a couple of months...

Megamind: kinda meh
Azur & Asmar: needs more love!
How to Train your Dragon 2: oh so very wow!!
Rise of the Guardians: just meh
Brave: bit better than expected
How to Train your Dragon: oh wow!!
Frozen: almost as good as expected

...Why yes I'm on a "let's catch on animation movies I've been missing out on the last few years" spree.
As for my involvment in fandom, I'm totally caught with HTTYD at the moment.

Guardians of the Galaxy. AND IT WAS AMAZING!

- The Other Woman, which I regret having seen.

- We're the Millers, which I also regret.

- Little Miss Sunshine... I've seen it a million times before, but I love it.

I've been watching movies every week with friends of mine. Last week was 28 Days Later, which is a personal favourite of mine (I dislike most zombie movies due to oversaturation, but 28DL is a classic.)

Next week is This Is Spinal Tap, which I'm looking forward to seeing again, it's been a while.

Guardians of the Galaxy was the last movie I saw in the theater. Fellowship of the Ring was the last movie I watched. Loved them both and yes, I'm sort of in both fandoms.

Most recently? I rewatched The Caine Mutiny. Bogart really nails it, in fact the whole thing is great. It really gets how one poisonous snake can destroy a whole workplace, but it also points out that as the new boss the time to get people onside is before you go through a hundred changes and lay down the law otherwise the snake will get to people first.

The Expendables 3.

It was pretty terribad. Which is a shame, because the second one was alright. Ended up skipping through about 45 minutes and it was still boring.

Stargate: Awesome.
Starship Troopers: Awesome.
Jesus Christ Superstar: Awesome.

-My Week With Marilyn: not bad, some of the performances were quite good. Branagh looks nothing like Olivier, but he got the voice down quite well. It's somehow got an even greater "Hey it's that guy!" factor than TTSS. Michael Kitchen! Simon Russell Beale! Toby Jones! Zoe Wanamaker! Dominic Cooper! David Rintoul! Obligatory 90 seconds of Derek Jacobi?! It just kept going.

-Thor 2: It was better than the first one, especially in regards to the direction.

-Frozen: Awful. I cringed my way through the majority of the songs. It had a more cohesive story than the confused PATF and Brave, but I still somehow liked both of them much better.

Chicago and Overboard. I'd seen them both before, but not for a while, and I've gotta say: still excellent.

(With everyone else, it seems.) Guardians of the Galaxy. Yes, I adored it, want to see it again and am really looking forward to the Blu-Ray and special features! I am sort of involved in the fandom, but not as much as I'd like to be because I'm also getting back into anime right now and don't really have time for both. (Groot/Rocket 4ever, though. I even got a fluffy fill on the one and only kink meme prompt I left, so I'm pleased!)

The Nun's Story

(Anonymous) 2014-08-23 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The Nun's Story was on TCM last might and it was the second time I'd seen it. Now I desperately want sequel fanfic where Hepburn's de-nun-ified character is re-united with Dr. Hot Guy (during the war, after the war, doesn't matter), gets to go back to the Congo, and goes on to become some kind of awesome medical research scientist... or, failing that, fusion fic with any of my current fave fandoms (Sherlock specifically, but I'm not picky). Sadly, the internet has failed me and such things do not exist.

Alatriste because I wanted to hear Viggo Mortensen speaking Spanish. It was okay, I guess but the scene cuts were so clumsy and everything happened so fast. I feel like they tried to jam way too much in 2 and a half hours. I didn't even finish the thing.

Guardians of the Galaxy, which was all kinds of fun, and Zoolander, which wasn't. I'm fond of goofy Ben Stiller movies, but that one did nothing at all for me.

39 Steps; Apartment (1960)

[personal profile] solticisekf 2014-08-23 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Both are b/w. 39 Steps is very troppy and I'd say problematic in its treatment of women. The Apartment is a slice of life romantic movie with much drama. I liked the prototype of a modern microwave - a small gas oven in wich the hero prepairs TV dinners.

Last night I watched You're Next with my cousins. I'm not into horror movies at all but I really enjoyed this one, maybe because it wasn't much of a horror movie? It was just goofy and fun and got totally ridiculous in the end, in a good way. Also Erin was awesome, of course.

Before that we watched Noroi, which was creepy and unsettling and kind of upsetting, and Paranormal Activity, which I didn't really get into. I don't like horror movies but they keep making me watch them :'(
