Aw, I was just thinking the other day about how her English accent in that movie was better than many American adults playing English parts.

I found the accent kind of hilarious.

I have been saying that for years! It is basically a commodification of their children, dividing them as they would with their possessions. Not to mention, both parents had to agree to never see one of their children again, AND the kids were each kept in the dark about the existence of her IDENTICAL TWIN SISTER.

HE DIDN'T WANT TO BE CLEAR.

Sorry to yell (okay, not really) but it's pretty obvious that Neil is making Shadow's race ambiguous because Shadow is THE Shadow of America. He represents everyone.

I'd like to fuck him all right. He's not that good looking but I'd just fuck him as a thank-you for all the good books.

You mean like in a string bag? I think I remember that illustration in our Girl Scout handbook.

Re: How often do you shampoo/condition your hair?

[personal profile] dahli 2014-08-29 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Every time I was my hair, which is probably 3-4 days aprox.

I've found that depending on the brand you use, it'll affect your hair. My hair is long and curly, so I use Dove and currently switched to Herbal Essenes, which also does wonders to my hair.

I'd rec switching from Garnier to anything else that is not Garnier. My personal experience with the brand is that it'll leave your hair really dry and crunchy like a dorito. Terrible, terrible stuff. If your hair is long, use something that leaves your hair silky. Iirc Herbal Essenses has a new line for long hair.

My point is: DON'T USE GARNIER. THAT THING IS HORRIBLE.

Re: College

I know you're right here, including about how I feel like this is my only chance. I didn't really consider it but the first time I went to college, it was as a dual enrollment student and when my parents couldn't afford to send me to college after I graduated it was pretty heartbreaking for me. It was six years before I went back and I do feel like if I don't get everything I can out of it now, I'll never be able to go back if I want to.

Anyway, thanks for your advice. It's given me something to consider.

I do the baking soda + apple cider vinegar thing, though the water in my area is so hard and mineral-filled I often find myself alternating between baking soda and a solid shampoo to get properly clean. I'd wager I wash my hair every 3 days, more often if it's insufferably hot outside, but a quick water wash does the trick in a pinch.

I made the switch to BS and ACV mostly due to thriftiness and convenience, to tell the truth! Keep in mind that my hair has always been relatively easy to care for (wavy/curly mix) and I barely noticed the transition- the combination simply doesn't work out for some people. I didn't go cold-turkey on the hair products, either- I've heard grease-bomb stories from others who tried to go directly to BS and ACV.

I do an egg mask on my hair once a month too- it feels strangely delightful and soft afterward. Cx

The books didn't say anything about what race Cinna was.

White girl here. No one ever EVER asks me if I have any gypsy/Native American/black in me.

Also, previously married to a pale skinned man who WAS part African-American, but because of his pale skin he was never asked either.

People ONLY ask you those questions if you are dark-skinned.

This.

I have a hearing disorder, and while I can usually put together what people are saying well enough, if they have an accent - especially if it's an accent I don't hear often - it all ends up sounding like nonsense to me, no matter how hard I try to understand it.

Not sure-The manga might not be ending anytime soon. It was announced that it'd be ending this year, but then it was reported that was a mis-translation, so it could be next year. There's a movie that is supposed to lead up to the "new era", whatever that means!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Not really though? I have very pale skin, but have still had people ask about my heritage because of my eyes, and the contrast between my light skin and darker features.

In a book, yeah, the writer is communicating something, but in real life, some people will respond to various features that don't match their internal idea of what people of certain races look like.

You're surprised? People actually got angry about Rue's actress being black.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
I think most SJWs are white teenage-to-young adults who start out with good intentions, or at least think they have them, but they're also really angry/entitled and want to feel superior or find someone to bully. At least there's a good chance they'll be more chill about most things when they grow out of it, less likely to shit themselves over differences.

I can't see QUILTBAG without thinking it's something you have to have a certain number of fat quarters to qualify for.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
da

But don't people form a character in their head that sticks until "proven otherwise"? I mean, I like to envision the characters, and I get hair color and body type wrong all the time, and it is jarring.

I know assuming white does have racial implications, but at the same time, I'm white, I'm from a community that's almost entirely white, if you say "A man walks into a bar" I'm probably going to picture a white guy by default, yeah.

Just wash 'em in the sink like usual, and put a tub or something under the leak. No worries. Just so long as the sink area is clean/empty when the guy comes so he has room to fix it and can run water without reaching around dirty pots.

Good luck!

(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
I should shampoo and condition every day because my hair is so oily, but depending on where I'm going, sometimes I skip it for one or two days.

(Anonymous) 2014-08-29 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
But Bagoas got a lot of man-loving from Alexander. Actually, I heard the film didn't do well in Greece and pissed off a lot of people who were outraged at the suggestion that Alexander may have been gay/bi. Which is kind of hilarious.

Re: Can you ID these caterpillars?

[personal profile] tabaqui 2014-08-29 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
We call those 'wooly worms' and mostly ignore them or pet them. They're harmless little moth caterpillars, though of what kind i have no idea.
