But it's awful.
Forced 1280x768 resolution, no pause or options menu, hitting escape closes the game without warning. This is not acceptable, I've not seen something so lazy in a while.
No subtitles. I know it's more to ask than basic game features like a friggin' pause or options menu, but on top of everything else it's just salt in the wound.
But dethtoll, I hear you ask, what about the GAME? Well, the entire game is built on jump scares that you can see coming a mile away. It does have a good sense of style and is a relatively unique concept, and it's clear the developer has some creativity -- hopefully he applies his earnings towards developing a better game, because this one is too fatally flawed.
Maybe if I were 16 (the year I played Resident Evil for the first time) and had a 5:4 monitor I'd love this. As it is I can't recommend it to anyone except teenagers and the most die-hard consumers of cheap indie horror gimmick games, and the Venn diagram of those two groups are almost a circle.

Oh, right, I didn't. But this trend of gimmicky indie horror games like Slenderman (you'll note I didn't say anything about their overall quality, just that Freddie's in particular sucks) seem to be really popular with the under-21 set, so..... what was your point again?

You're inferring an awful lot. Stop.

I could say the sky is blue and you'd call that elitist.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-09 12:12 am (UTC)(link)"consumers of poor quality indie horror gimmick games"
"consumers of inexpensive cost-wise indie horror gimmick games"
Which one makes more sense, I wonder?
You used common slang that means "poor quality" in a sentence that easily leads to that meaning, and you're pissed more than one person read it that way.
To bring back and old meme: intent isn't fucking magical. The fact that this isn't the first time someone has called you on this should tell you something.

Why do you even fucking care? Clearly you don't like me so why even waste your time?

Anyways, I'm always interested in what you have to say about stuff like this. Even if I haven't played the game (which I haven't, and probably never will).

(Anonymous) 2014-09-09 12:16 am (UTC)(link)It's clear to me. /shrug

I mean I suppose I could be more clear, but I'm not obligated to explain myself to people who seem to only care about criticizing everything I say.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-09 06:37 am (UTC)(link)It would've worked better if it interspersed the jump scares with something else, but when you're anticipating jump scares, the effect is lost.

I don't even know where Nan got "bad taste" from. That was out of left field.
And anyway I'm not obligated to explain myself to you or anyone else, so seriously, just drop it already.

"Because you're so mature you have to call anyone who like something you don't a stupid teenager or someone into cheap gimmick games."
Should I just say OH YES ANON YOU ARE TOTALLY CORRECT I AM A FUCKING DIPSHIT *SELF-FLAGELLATE*?
Would that make you happy? Clearly my initial answer, where I asked where I said anything about "stupid" or the quality of indie horror games, was just too ~DEFENSIVE and DISMISSIVE~ for your delicate sensibilities.
I'm really done with this conversation. Don't fucking lecture me about my ~tone~ when you're deliberately being provocative yourself.
