I have to admit that the guy who played it was hilarious, but really the thing about horror games is really the reaction videos. (even though I think a lot of it is staged, seriously I cannot imagine people getting that scared over video games)

Believe me, even I find it absurd how badly horror games (and movies, but less so) scare me, but I do all the shaking and screaming without an audience to appreciate it.

I was majorly disappointed by that game. I love horror games, so when I saw everyone talking about how it was supposedly the scariest game ever I was super excited to play it... and then it wasn't actually scary at all.

What a letdown. There was nothing scary about that game, it was just boring.

I honestly wonder how hard it is for some people to just block/ignore/filter/whatever they need to do to stop hearing about something that annoys them.

I wanted to like the game, I really did.

But it's awful.

Forced 1280x768 resolution, no pause or options menu, hitting escape closes the game without warning. This is not acceptable, I've not seen something so lazy in a while.

No subtitles. I know it's more to ask than basic game features like a friggin' pause or options menu, but on top of everything else it's just salt in the wound.

But dethtoll, I hear you ask, what about the GAME? Well, the entire game is built on jump scares that you can see coming a mile away. It does have a good sense of style and is a relatively unique concept, and it's clear the developer has some creativity -- hopefully he applies his earnings towards developing a better game, because this one is too fatally flawed.

Maybe if I were 16 (the year I played Resident Evil for the first time) and had a 5:4 monitor I'd love this. As it is I can't recommend it to anyone except teenagers and the most die-hard consumers of cheap indie horror gimmick games, and the Venn diagram of those two groups are almost a circle.

Imo it was a fun and creative game and I enjoyed the backstory, but it wasn't I-crapped-my-pants kind of scary. The LPs are fun to watch, tho.

I gave the demo a try but...I just didn't like playing it. Switching between cameras got old fast; the lack of variety killed my interest. I will admit I jumped a couple times (I'm easily startled by jump scares), but it didn't terrify me out the way I expected.

However, I DID like the back-story; the calls were the best part of the game, imo. If the game had been more...involved (yea, yea, not everything has to be super complicated or action packed) I think I would've enjoyed it more, because the premise was really cool and the writing (again, of the calls, as that was...pretty much the only writing in the game, lmao) was great. (Also, Foxy is beast.)

I don't mind people talking about the game, though. ...People have to talk about something, right?

i had heard about this a lot and how scary it was, but i didn't really know anything about the plot or gameplay. when i finally watched an LP i was super underwhelmed. it was so boring and basic, i couldn't believe it was being made into such a big deal. i mean i could see it being fun to try once, but not as amazing and people seem to be acting.

I hear you, OP. I'm beginning to think I'm scare-proof or something...this game bored me, Slender bored me, Amnesia: The Dark Descent bored me-- I think the last game that got me genuinely scared was Fatal Frame II. I'm desperate for something to really get under my skin and freak me out again.

I think it was scary for like the first 5 to 10 minutes but the novelty really wore off since it's just a series of jump scares.

Plus PT/Silent Hills came along and proceeded to take a massive dump on it. Now that shit was terrifying.

Probably for a lot of people it's capitalizing on a childhood kinda-fear that's never been capitalized on before, like if it were the first horror game about clowns.

Good thing some people out there don't crap their pants over it. I can't even make it past 3AM without having kittens, it's sad. The hype will die, just like it did with Amnesia, and then we'll get a whole new trendy thing most people are going wild over until some people get sick of it because they weren't impressed to begin with. It's the ~circle of fandom~ or some shit.

Sorry but cr1tikals lp was the best lp of a horror game I've ever seen, so this game holds a special place in my heart.
