An example where doxxing was a GOOD thing. (TW: Racial slurs and discussion of death)

(Anonymous) 2014-09-10 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Recently the k-pop fandom experienced a tragic loss - two members of the up and coming group Ladies' Code were killed in a horrific car accident. 99.99% of comments and tweets were sympathetic... Except for one kysadrian - a black boy from Florida (yes, his skin colour is relevant). After the first death (Eun.B) kysadrian began that he was laughing that this "dog eater" was dead, and it proved that "ching chongs can't drive". He posted a photo of himself with his eyes close and captioned "This is me as Eun.B". He continued on with disgusting slurs and insults against the group (for example, "They couldn't even open their eyes wide enough to see the road, it's their own fault!") and saying that instead of being sad about "some random Chinese dead girl", they should instead "love [kysadrian], a gorgeous white boy!"

Unfortunately for kysadrian, he'd worn a school uniform in his Twitter display pic, and people were able to ascertain his name. There were people from Singapore and Korea e-mailing his school in fury and outrage, and kysadrian was eventually taken out of class by police officers for "causing an international incident".

Justice served, motherfucker.

Sounds more like assholes ruining a bigger asshole.

Doxxing a kid is pretty awful, though.

Yeah, this. So the kid had poor parenting (or, more likely, NO parenting), the people who doxxed and SWATed the kid should be banned from the Internet.

I fail to see how the doxxing part was a good thing. Like, obviously he was a troll and a huge asshole, but does that actually justify doxxing? He wasn't actually threatening any kind of violence, was he?

I think that guy is a hateful asshole who should've had his account banned for harrassment, but IMO doxxing is only okay if somebody is in immediate danger (posted a suicide note, threatened to beat someone up, etc.) because putting a person's location online is an act that can never be reversed, so it should only be done to prevent other actions that can't be reversed.

Justice served, motherfucker.

No, shut up, you stupid fucking asshole. This is exactly why doxxing is shit no matter who does it or why-- this sense of "vigilante justice" that is absolutely sick and wrong, and serves zero fucking purpose outside of escalating situations and making the doxxers feel better about themselves by stepping on someone and grinding the boot. Fucking mob mentality. Disgusting.

Did that kid deserve to be banned? Yo, totally, he was an asshole. The rest of you are also assholes. And when it's a multiple-asshole vs. one asshole fight, sorry, you're the one that's worse in the end.

And I can only imagine how hypocritically upset you get when 4chan decides to dox someone they don't like. "It's okay when I do it because I'm right" though, right? Yeeeah no. Fuck off.

Yeah this. How much does someone have to delude themselves into thinking they're morally right by ganging up on one person. It's cowardly at best.

If you do it for a "good" reason then pretty soon you'll be doing it for bad ones. Now you've got something you can say that when the next incident comes up "well, its almost as bad as that. And then the next is almost as bad as the one that is almost as bad as the first, after a few more almost, you're at the point where you can doxx for anything unsettling. That is why we defend those bastards who are doing obnoxious things, because they are sitting on top of the slippery slope that everyone else skis down. And every sodding time, people start off with "but this is different, this won't lead to the slippery sloooooooooooooooopppppe as they doppler past on the way down.
