It makes sense that he'd update his look, since iirc something like two years passed between Avengers and Winter Soldier, but it is too bad. The more classic hairstyle really suited the character.

He's trying to be hip (like Tony in IM3). And assume Natasha dragged him out to a hairdresser at some point.

They are both better than his Avengers hair. Didn't care for that haircut.

While I also prefer his first haircut, I saw the second one as visual illustration of him trying to integrate into modern life, and not stagnate in the past.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-13 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It's fine

they're both fine

(Anonymous) 2014-10-13 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? I feel a bit dumb, but I can't really tell the difference. The second one is maybe a bit shorter?

(Anonymous) 2014-10-13 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
like the first one better, but it looks a bit like a wig.

Ikr. I liked the throwback of the hairstyle, like he was still a product of his generation in terms of little things like aesthetic preferences wrt hairstyle.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-13 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Can we generally please bring back old-fashioned side-parts? So much more attractive on 90% of all guys than the modern ~tousled~ look.

I like both. Both are good.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't like the first one, but it was right for the first movie. The second one, I think, is him trying to update his look for the world he now lives in.

I loved both movies equally for different reasons. And I'll never understand the hate Cap 1 gets around here.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-10-13 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Cap 1 (don't get me wrong), I just think that Cap 2 is BETTER. Except for the hair. The WWII style just really, really worked for me. It made Steve look classic and put together whereas I think his modern hairstyle (though logical from the character's perspective of adapting to the modern world, as other have mentioned) veers too close to frat-boy territory sometimes.

The complaint is petty, but it nags at the back of my mind when I watch The Winter Soldier.

The hair in Winter Soldier in general was bad. His was bad, but Natasha's was worse. I still can't get over her horrible wig.

Huh. I never noticed that. But now that I do...his old haircut looks like a typical Navy haircut. (Dad was in the Navy. So many men had this style that it was the gold standard.) While the second haircut doesn't look military at all. Which is strange for Captain America. Great, now it's going to bug me.
elaminator: (Avengers: Cap (leather jacket))

Give me both. I want both.

I think he's absolutely gorgeous with both. I do think the hair in the first film fit the era (and his personality) very well, but it makes sense that he's trying to be more current.

OMG thank you for saying this. I feel so damn shallow but his spikey hair and thinned eyebrows are so distracting. I purchased it recently, and must have been remembering it differently since the theatres because I found it so distracting. I loved his look in TFA and The Avengers, but I can't quite figure out this one.

And for everyone saying this is an updated look...I think it looks rather 90s/early 00s myself.

man, that Cap 1 haircut. So...uh...it's just like a classic pretty good boy look. dunno if I'm saying that right. Not my favorite look. xD;

(Anonymous) 2014-10-14 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
The first one was way better to me personally, it's such a gorgeous "romantic" (or how should I call it) hairstyle. Nice and classy and smooth and not like the second one that looks pretty much like your average/generic guy's hair.

I've never liked generic hairstyles on guys, so many men have the same short and dull haircut at age 10, 20, 30, etc. All their lives, really. :/ If you have nice thick hair, why not show it off? Pretty hair is an attractive feature on men too, not just women.

I kind of agree, but I don't hate it as much as how they changed Chris Pine's hair between the two Trek movies.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-14 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I liked his Cap I hair, too. Get that man some Dapper Dan, stat!

(Anonymous) 2014-10-14 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Totally agree with you there, OP. His hairstyle in FA had so much charm and really suits him (his whole look in that movie was what made me start to notice Chris Evans in the first place), whereas his hairstyle in WS is just...bland and generic. Doesn't really do him any favors.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-14 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
He did have to get a modern haircut.. but I understand. I think everyone had better hairstyles back then.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-17 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean. Old style haircuts are just so... Oooh~<3
