Anyway, if you find Eugene attractive, you find him attractive.

I can't put my finger on why, but I find Eugene attractive as well. Maybe because he's smart?

And starting to watch because of the potential gay character doesn't seem any more shallow than many other reasons people may have to watch shows.

Did I write this in my sleep?
(Anonymous) 2014-11-02 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)I didn't watch the show from the beginning, but after a while I thought "Daryll's never explicitly been seen attracted to a woman. Why don't they just make him gay? (or bi) There's nothing on the show to contradict it."
I don't ship him with any of the other guys on the show (I kind of ship him with Michonne and I'd be totally cool with Daryll/Carol happening in canon. I just REALLY hope Beth/Darryl doesn't happen)
But it'd be great to show a beloved character as not defined by his sexuality (but they should actually show him actually being with a man at some point, no erasure type bullshit)
The only problem I could see with this is that it would cause SO MUCH POLARIZATION in the fandom. A good portion of the fandom would be totally cool with it, but I wouldn't doubt it if a lot of the more conservative viewers stop (or at least threaten to stop) watching the show because of it.
I'd still watch the show if he turns out to be portrayed as exclusively straight, but it'd be great to have some more LGBT representation on such a popular show.

And I don't have a problem with Eugene as a character, but I'm not loving him yet either. As for the mullet...I don't think it suits him (I think the only person who call pull off a mullet is Solid Snake. HE makes it sexy), but whatever. It's the zombie apocalypse, they have bigger shit to worry about.

And, while i enjoy WD, it's been uneven to say the least, so saying you came back for the possibility of a character being gay isn't shallow. It would certainly have been an interesting development in the yawn-fest that was the Farm season and the Governor season(s).

(Anonymous) 2014-11-03 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)...That said- and I'm prefacing this by saying that I'm a lesbian and am all for lgbt representation- all of these "rumors" (which feel like Kirkman stirring shit because god forbid the show stands on its own merits and he doesn't wave his dick around like I AM THE MASTER) are really rubbing me the wrong way, I don't know how else to really put it. I don't like that it feels like it's a publicity thing, and that's the overwhelming impression I'm getting here.
WRT Daryl as a character... Look at his upbringing. Look at how he was raised. There is no way in hell he would EVER admit to being gay (and I hate that term but lbr that's probably how he would see it- he isn't Merle but that mindset is very hard to escape especially when you're already insecure). We saw how he reacted to Beth implying that he'd been to jail, can you even imagine how hard he would try to hide something like being gay? He's come really far as a character but having him act on anything like that- assuming that is how he feels- would be completely ooc. Not him being gay, but him acknowledging it and acting on it. He would never risk his place in the group by letting anything like that slip so imo it's pretty much a non-issue. I'd like to see this sort of thing done in fic over the course of a longer period of time tbh but idk about on the show. I don't really trust them to handle it in a way that isn't splashing DARYL DIXON IS GAY!!!! across headlines everywhere. And that just seems cheap.
...I have a lot of feelings about Daryl Dixon sorry f!s
