Are they they exact same character? He's going to be in AoU?

I thought they couldn't do that, with Fox owning the Forsaken Franchises of X-Men, Spiderman, FF and Marvel owning everyone else (including Avengers)

Well, in the MCU they cannot mention that he is a mutant or any of that background. So his powers will be a mystery maybe?

eta: But no, they are different characters.

They're different versions of the same character, I'm pretty sure.

IIRC they have to call Wanda and Pietro "miracles" instead of "mutants" because of the copyright stuff but that's about it.

Define "exact same"?

They are the same person yes, but likely will be written differently and possibly will have a different backstory.

Sony owns the Spidey rights. Fox owns the X-Men and FF and Marvel/Disney owns the film rights to everything else.

Jumping in with everybody else for more details

In Days of Future Past, they referred to Pietro only as Peter. They heavily implied that he was Magneto's son, but we didn't see Wanda at all. He was however, very obviously a mutant, because it was an X-Men story and the Marvel mutants are their (Fox's) business

In Age of Ultron, Wanda and Pietro are together and get to keep their names (and their powers). They DON'T get to keep their backstory - Magneto won't be mentioned and I'm fairly sure the word mutant won't ever be used. The teaser at the end of Winter Soldier suggested to me that the Marvel Studios story is gonna be that Baron von Strucker GAVE them their powers through experimenting with the infinity stone in Loki's sceptre, which I'm guessing is meant to be the mind gem. And though I'll miss Magneto in the twins' story...as scrambling around to cover their bases for copyright purposes goes, this story works out pretty well.

I doubt they will be comparable. The X-Men version was comic relief. I doubt we will be seeing much comedy from the AOU version.

[personal profile] queerwolf 2014-11-16 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
True. That makes it easier to see them as two different characters.

Yeah, I have a similar worry. I just accept I need to see the two as very separate universes.

I mean, we're acknowledging that neither version is dead on for the original comics version too so... I don't know. That just seems like borrowing trouble.

I feel there will be a lot of us in this club.

I hated X-Men Quicksilver's look when I first saw production stills. I even laughed at him! But obviously I then saw the film and it made sense, plus he stole the scenes he was in - to the point where I think they HAD to get rid of him early on in the plot because he was just too powerful.

I am cautiously optimistic about AoU's Quicksilver though because even the things the MCU has done that disappoint me don't disappoint me all that much in the grand scheme of things.

Quicksilver was my favorite part of DoFP. He was just so much fun!

The thing about AoU is that I'm curious/worried about how many characters they're going to stuff into this movie and how/if any character development is going to happen.

I hated him, so any other version will be an improvement

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep.

I'd have liked to see the same actor and role in both, but I guess neither the chronology nor the mood/tone of both movies allows for that.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, this granny fucker. I loathe anything he's in tbh.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Granny fucker because he married someone older than him? o.O

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, nasty. If it was the other way around, gender-wise, no-one would even care. Do you call Patrick Stewart's wife a grandpa fucker? Scarlett Johanson is 8 or 9 years younger than her husband, is that an uncle fucker?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I just don't understand why they're bothering. There are thousands of Marvel characters, and Fox doesn't own a lot of them. I'm sure there's a comparable one if they absolutely needed Quicksilver's abilities, and I'm just not sure why. He's never been that great of a character.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
I think MCU needed Wanda and felt like they couldn't have one twin without the other; DOFP wanted Quicksilver because they wanted to beat MCU to the punch, but they didn't need Wanda because she's a plot breaker and they didn't want to have to explain her.
I say this as someone who LOVED Quicksilver in DOFP and is very wary about the twins in AoU btw

I can get why, but they are going to be completely different characters. I don't know much about AoU Quicksilver so I've got no opinions on him yet, shall have to see what they do with him.
queerwolf: (howling wolf)

[personal profile] queerwolf 2014-11-16 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
The tones are so different that I can see them as two separate characters. X-Men's was comic relief and I doubt that AoU's will have much that's funny about him.
otakugal15: (Default)

[personal profile] otakugal15 2014-11-16 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Same.

Though DoFP Quicksilver is now gonna constantly be reminding of Tate from American Horror Story...

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I am holding all opinions on the twins' characterization until I actually see the movie. However, I'm kind of worried about the COSTUME. The AoU one looks like he's wearing pajamas...

ME TOO!
