b-but Sarah Lund ;_; I don't think she looks like she's about to cry at all. She's just always very grumpy.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not Sarah Lund! It's Sarah Linden, from the crappy American remake

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
DA I was going to suggest OP watch the Danish original. As you say Lund is more of a stoic and not at all weepy (I think).

But being constantly grumps is awesome

(actually I haven't watched the show either, because everyone says it's bad, so idk)

I really liked it.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm starting to get really annoyed by that "if you don't like a female character you're misogynistic" thing. That attitude really is not as common as people here make it out to be.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
People want to feel like they're going against the norm, so if they don't like a female character they'll pretend all of fandom is against them.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
They're so brave for going against the totally-supportive-of-female characters norm!

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It is from fans of unpopular female characters (see: Laurel Lance, Arrow), and sometimes even popular ones (see: Regina Mills, OUAT).

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Really?

I can't even think of a single recent instance of even the most minor criticism of female characters when someone doesn't play the misogynistic card.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I know that Tumblr blog fandomshatewomen is all over this shit.

Which really pisses me off because I, personally, find it misogynistic as heck in its own way.

"Oh, you dislike a female character? You must be a misogynist!"

Right…because the only reason a woman is ever hated is BECAUSE she's a woman. Because women are all the same! And don't have any defining or unique characteristics that could make them unlikable!

Like, Christ, with that logic, you can't dislike Sarah Palin -- even though she's said and done PLENTY to make people hate her guts. (And, yes, I recognize that people have said misogynistic things about Sarah Palin. But that hardly makes criticism/dislike of her misogynistic in and of itself.)

Really? I must be hanging out in the wrong fandom circles then. It goes so far that I think thrice before I say something negative about a female character.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait is there an American version? Is it any good? I mean the main thing I liked about where the awesome cliffhangers and the fact that Sarah could have been a man and nothing would have changed. I have a feeling that the last one is where the American remake dropped the ball.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard the the American remake was shitty, but improved later on in the third season, and then got cancelled.

It's really good. It's just victim to snobs in the cult of "superior foreign version."

I'm not a fan of characters who look like they're about to cry all the time too, so you're not alone OP.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Second vote for watching the Danish original. Sarah Lund is way more stoic. Well. EVERYONE is way more stoic, tbh.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, the plot is much better

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I just think you have shitty taste.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
The Danish Killing is so, so much better. Sarah Lund is the best.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, fuck all you guys. The American version is great.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, she's just pale with a red nose and pale eyes. I have the same colouring and people worry that I'm about to cry, but I just have resting cry-face.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
na
It might be a coloring thing... I don't know if Linden is as stoic as the original, but she is pretty emotionally stunted and withdrawn in her own right.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I feel this way about Anna Torv in Fringe. Woman looks like she's constantly smelling something less than pleasant and I can't take her seriously.
