Most girls who say their school's dress code doesn't have any rules for what boys can and can't wear are lying.

Yep. Also, there was that one post floating around Tumblr that was a dress code for a prom. The girl's rules was probably twice (if not three times) as long as the boy's rules. And of course they were all screaming sexism.

What they didn't seem to understand (surprise) was that the boy's rules were so short because they had way fewer options! It basically said, 'Must wear dress pants with an oxford dress shirt." They didn't have any choices.

Meanwhile, the girl's could wear dozens (if not hundreds) diff kinds of dresses. So, of course the school had to make a more thorough list to account for alllll the diff choices.

Do you mean just the girls whose schools definitely have a dress code for girls? It kind of makes sense this way. Because otherwise, there are plenty of schools with no dress code at all.

Yes, I mean girls who say "My school's dress code is so unfair, and of course it's all only addressed to girls!"

Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying.

People who say that about dress codes in general are lying, because men have far fewer clothing options that are considered "appropriate." Appropriate attire for men in most situations is basically slacks and a button-up shirt. There's very little variety and thus there aren't many ways in which they can wear something inappropriate that isn't blatantly so (jeans, t-shirts, etc.)

There are a lot more ways for women to be inappropriate in their dress than there are for men. That's just a fact.

If they say they don't have any rules at all for boys, they're probably lying. But if they're saying that boys don't get in trouble as often for dress code violations, there might be some truth to it. I know that at my HS girls would get reprimanded more than boys for offenses that really should have applied to both. Like, girls would get in trouble for wearing basic tank tops (not just spaghetti strap ones), but boys wearing the same style of tank top wouldn't.

Really? I know tank tops weren't allowed at my school and nobody ever wore them...

But I think some of the same applies. Girls would get busted for length of shorts/skirts on a regular but somewhat arbitrary basis. Meanwhile guys who sagged rarely got called on it (which annoyed me because sagging is kinda gross imo).

This might have been because we had a creepy dean, though. He'd bust girls and then leer at them while they sat in his office.

Agreed. At my old schools, the guys actually had more dress code rules than the girls, because the schools were worried about gang affiliation. That and the guys at my school were more likely to wear the pants too low, and the shirts with offensive things on it.

I also love that a lot of the people who are aggressively whining about evil dress codes for girls were among the first and most vicious to jump on the "Matt Taylor's shirt is soooo inappropriate and sexist" train.
