Urban fantasy that isn't about another damn love triangle.

urban fantasy has so much potential, but somehow manages to fall back on tired romance cliches every goddamn time

AYRT - Exactly. I can appreciate that when it's teen fantasy, they want to focus on teen issues, but in all honesty even when I was a teen I didn't care that much. I was in high school, I didn't need a book to tell me love bites sometimes.

I don't mind love triangles so much but damn, for once I'd just wish they'd end up a threesome.

Guy accidentally wakes up an elf (from eternal sleep or something) and the battle of good vs evil commences. The girl main guy was having UST with gets involved too, hooks up with the elf, and then threesome follows. One of the better parts of the book is how the main character is wildly attracted to both of them and deals with that (maybe not as well as I would have liked, but there was never any 'no homo' nonsense.)

Never heard of it - is it otherwise good?

It's okay. Not one of my favorites, but worth a read through, imo.

Then you're looking for the Libriomancer series by Jim C. Hines. You're welcome.

That book was already on my list and this comment just bumped it up to the top.

I've personally been wanting to see another , more urban fantasy modern Wizarding School, where technology is utilized rather than shunned. I'd like to see wizard kids that write up their papers on their laptop at Starbucks, get caught texting in class and have part time jobs at the local burger joint.

But also can do spells, enchant things, and brew potions, and the like. And maybe instead of having some Dark Lord, like in a lot of the existing Wizard Schools , they have to deal with enemies like obstructive bureaucrats, cheats and swindlers, and magical versions of common everyday baddies (hey to those who think this sounds boring, remember how Umbridge is hated more than Voldemort for being a more relateable villain?)

Also even for like magical criminals, they have their own branch of the police and FBI. (Oh Lord, how I would love to read about the wizard FBI or something).

This is the kind of stuff I'd like to see (and maybe write).

Check out the Greywalker series by Kat Richardson. I haven't read the early books in a while, but from what I remember the protagonist has exactly two love interests over the course of 9 books, there are some books where she's happily single, and both love interests are human. Also notable for pointing out that if you can see the echoes of violent death, vampires would be the exact fucking opposite of sexy.

I love the Kitty Norville books because this was dealt with over one book and then really never came up again. She and Ben are very very married and like it that way.

It was so refreshing, wasn't it? And they're not having marriage troubles down the line, either, they're just...happy with each other, while they're dealing with other problems and saving the world. Not remotely as boring as so many writers think that would be.

It is awesome, and Ben is awesome, and I want a book from his POV sometime.

And Carrie is really nice, which makes me want to buy her books all the more. I can't wait for Low Midnight.
