I've heard personal accounts from some of my friends who've been to Japan/East Asia, and they've said that the racism they experienced there was no different from the racism they experienced living in the United States (assuming that you, in fact, live in the U.S.) and that it didn't prevent them from enjoying their trips. Japan is notoriously xenophobic (anyone who isn't Japanese = watch out), but if you're a black American, chances are you've experienced your share of racism, so you'll probably be used to it. If you do decide to go to Japan one day, don't worry too much about it...thinking about it too much will only ruin your trip.

Everything you said about the British Titty Vampire? Couldn't agree more. It was really really strange for Dex to open up so much to her. And the sex... Not that I mind seeing Dexter porn by any means, but I have to agree that a lot of things in that season really rubbed me the wrong way. I thought "Dexter should not be doing this" on more occasions than I should have.

The first two Dexter books are A+++ would read again, but I'm not sure about the third book. I haven't got a copy of it right now (It was hardcover and expensive!), but I've heard... Well, really horrible things about it. So if I do read it, it'll probably purely be for the sake of continuity.

-Which is sad.

It's not totally awful, but it's a bit out of step with the rest of the series. At least for me. But I have hopes for the fourth :D

(as for the paperback edition... only due in August for the US and July for the UK, and neither is much cheaper than the hardcover. It's especially heavy with the brit edition (which I own): £10 for the hardcover, £7 for paperback. I don't think you'll escape the expensiveness)

And I loved S2 for what they did with Doakes. I still can't decide whether I like S2 or book 2 better in that regard 8D

36. I know how you feel on that one. I was pretty young when DBZ first started coming on and my parents wanted to bar me from watching it because of this character. I didn't understand why at the time, though.

50. I disagree, though it may just be that you used a poor example. This doesn't really strike me as being overconfident and, really, is a nice change from "OMG MY WRITING SUCKS SO HARD YOU DON'T WANNA READ IT o god I hope someone reviews," etc.

36. You know, I worried about how I would be treated in Japan too when I went there. But I didn't really have any problems at all while I was there (2 weeks one summer and 2 more weeks the next). Everyone there was very polite and helpful. I got some stares (I had my hair in braids the first time I went and by the time I went home 15 different people had asked me about them. One even took a picture. XD It probably didn't help that we were in a rather remote area.) but no one was actually rude or anything.

However, a month isn't very long. You might want to read this guy's blog; he's a black American teaching in Japan.

2) I am right there with you. I mean, I realize that angst gravitates towards a lot of fandoms like whoa, but a lot of the time (*especially* in bandom, in regards to the rare bands that, y'know, like each other) it gets to be a little much. Gimme the fluff and (dare I say) crack any day. Keep doing what you're doing! ♥
