(Anonymous) 2014-12-04 04:30 am (UTC)(link)Tea. Not herbal "tea", because that doesn't have caffeine.
Re: Preparing for exams
Assign each class a flavor of gum, and while you're studying, chew that flavor. Also chew that flavor during the exam.
I don't know if it actually helps, or if it was just a placebo, but it works for me.
Just make sure that each class is a specific flavor.

Though, the caffeine thing wouldn't work for me.... Curse you caffeine-caused sleepiness! >:IRe: Preparing for exams

(Anonymous) 2014-12-04 12:14 am (UTC)(link)* Don't just read/reread what you need to know, write it down. The action of having to write (or type would also work, I guess) is that it emphasizes the information in your brain, you're processing it twice and will be more likely to recall it later.
* Get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast before exams. Nothing too rich that will upset your stomach, but something filling. Oatmeal with fruit is a good option. Eggs and toast.
Re: Preparing for exams
Schedule time after each exam to reward yourself, even if it's just with a cup of tea or hot chocolate.
Good luck!

Don't cram. Study for thirty minutes. Take a break. Study for thirty minutes etc. Quiz yourself. Have someone else quiz you. Don't just read and reread.
Re: Preparing for exams
(Anonymous) 2014-12-04 03:13 am (UTC)(link)Someone upthread mentioned taking the exam in similar conditions to how you study for it - ie. chewing gum. Obviously you're not going to be able to replicate it exactly, but if you have the same sort of snacks on hand, it can help. (Bonus! Sugar can provide a bit of a "rush" during the exam and may help you focus.)
Avoid caffeine and avoid pulling all-nighters. Why caffeine? Well, it might give you an extra boots of energy... but that will come with a crash later on. And it actually makes your attention more scattered, not more focused. AND it doesn't help anxiety.
Maybe try meditation if you're super nervous? That can also help with focusing your attention and getting in "the zone".
Pomodoro technique. I now use this for assignments and writing essays, and I wish I'd heard of it sooner. Basically, you set a timer for 20 minutes, and just work on whatever it is you need to do, for that entire time. Then you take a break. (Can be 5 mins, I usually take 10 mins or even half an hour because I have a terrible attention span.)
Turn off the internet. Just turn it off, block all the sites (yes, even F!S) and unplug the modem if you need to. Don't even go there. The internet is my #1 way to waste time.

The night before
(Anonymous) 2014-12-04 06:05 am (UTC)(link)When I started doing this, my exams went so much better. If you haven't learned it by the night before, it's not going to matter the day of. The rest you can bullshit. :P
