What are some silly things in media (books/movies/tv/music/games) that drive you crazy every time you experience it?

I was listening to the Nightmare Before Christmas OST for the hundredth time since December 1st. And the song "What's This" drives me crazy for a very stupid reason. Why does Jack not know what a snowflake is but knows what a snowball is?!?

While I love the movie Gladiator, the end where Maximus stabs the emperor is annoying because I can see how the knife is not in his neck. Obviously they can't actually stab him but there were way better angles they could have chosen.

Anytime they say something that's clearly because of censors or because times change or whatever. The most egregious example is Maleficent and her "death-like sleep" but the way the boys on SPN talk (when I think they would legitimately say fuck, shit, etc. in very un-PC terms) can be cringe-worthy sometimes. Some stuff for kids from before 2000 is hardcore now because of how timid they seem now and just how many things are inappropriate now. Never bothered me when I was a kid. I don't think they give kids enough credit.

When I read your first sentence, I immediately thought of SPN. It is made even more annoying because of that one Ghostfacers episode where they bleep out a bunch of cuss words!

Also, because fanfic has them cussing a lottttt.

I really don't get that "think of the children" attitude. Some stuff simply isn't for kids and if you let your child watch some adult show anyway, you should probably be more worried about violence than a bad word.

I have no idea why but I can't stand anytime actors have to sing acappella (or with just one instrument like a piano or guitar) in their shows/movies. Even if they're singers in real life. It just bugs me and I always fastforward through songs like that. But big musical numbers are usually okay.

I don't like it because it can be cringy. Like on The Walking Dead whenever Beth sang.

I wouldn't call that a silly thing! That is actually pretty important can can take up a lot of the plot.

I have a very high bar for music in fiction and if it doesn't reach some standard I get extreme second hand embarrassment and have to cover my ears.

I don't generally get that way with music. Except for as a said above, which is when actors sing.

I'm one of those people who hates chainsaw/nail gun killers because the tools never have a compressor on them. I was so damn happy when Orphan Black did the nail gun thing with the compressor on it. Poor Vick tho.

Do chainsaws need compressors? I thought they ran on gas or electricity....

The way anime characters ~pause dramatically~ before saying someone's name at the end of a sentence in which they address said character. It happens even when the name isn't significant to what they're saying! I don't get it!

Yeah and I just end up laughing at fight scenes where one character gets a hit landed on them and it takes a pause to show each character looking on in horror and they each call their name.. "____-KUN!!" and then "____" if they call them by something different.

All the name callling.

Hm. Is it a cultural thing? I am unsure what the weight names carry in Japan. Then again, maybe 1-2 popular anime did it, and now every one must do it!

That fucking "shwing" sound when people draw any sort of blades in any medium ever. Drives me crazy. There are similar issues with the sound of guns being cocked but the "sword sound" annoys me the most.

Well, now I will never be able to not hear this. D::::

that fucking shwing and the little clink-clink they do when they brandish it. I don't understand, is your blade not well-mounted?????? why are you fighting if your goddamn blade is loose?

Oh god. I LOVE that line. It is the ultimate in "I am a teenager who has no idea about this other place but I am going to assume is TOTALLY MORE AWESOME THAN WHERE I LIVE NOW!".

It's wishful thinking. She doesn't claim to know, she just "bets," because she hasn't been there to find out yet.

The shitty censor job of fake bras/panties to cover up nudity when editing a movie for TV. I remember it happening with Showgirls and it was awful.

The best, best, BEST for that was Dragonball/DBZ. Sometimes the characters would be naked and their little penises were always hilariously covered up by a random shrub or piece of clothing.

When kids are having breakfast before school, and suddenly mom/dad goes 'you're going to be late!' and shoos the kids out the door. Leaving *all their breakfast* on their plates and *nobody brushed their teeth*, wtf.

I hate that.

Pssshh. Breakfast period. We never had a full breakfast before going to school. We usually zombie-ate cereal or a poptart.
