I think this is the silliest thing to come out of 2014, to be honest. "Oh no. A guy called himself a gamer. He must be a misogynistic gamer gate person!"

In reality, Gamergate wasn't as big or popular as most people seem to think it was. And most people who call themselves "gamers" are just saying "I enjoy playing video games."

Also, I have played with equal amounts of male and female assholes.

I know jack about gamergate (and don't want to), but imo 'gamer' should mean 'a person who likes playing video games'. I get that some people have an unfortunate association with the word and that can't be helped, but I'd rather not jump to assumptions.

gamer just means "I like games", if someone were making it into something elitist or obnoxious I'd avoid that person but the majority of gamers I've met, including myself (yes I use that word, bite me, f!s) are just normal people who like to play games.
