21.) If the pic is related, I think a lot of the yaoi pairings in that fandom tend to overshadow the het ones most of the time. I mean... look at the season 2 DVD covers -- only ONE of them had a boy and a girl on the cover, and the rest were all perceived popular yaoi pairings. xD But yeah, I don't see why liking yaoi more than het should be grounds for ridicule, and this is coming from someone that likes het more than yaoi.

8. Don't know the fandom, but hey, don't feel too bad. Since you say you like tough, strong female characters, I'm assuming you hate her for a different reason, and there's nothing wrong with that.

13. Oh boy, where to start.

First, shutting up and settling is pretty much never the answer. Yes, we do have it better than before. That doesn't mean we can't still point out things that are wrong or disturbing. "There will never be true equality"? I say that's defeatist and choose to go on with my little fights because you know, it might help someone, somewhere, in some way. Discussing manifestations of sexism, wherever they may be, even in fandom, is still a contribution to feminism.

Second, fandom is an aspect of culture. No, really, it is. People bring their worldview to the table when they create a work of fiction, and fans then bring their worldviews to the table when they read it and discuss. I don't think it's stupid to complain about things in Kingdom Hearts if they might cause someone else to stop and think, or at the very least let someone who agrees know that they're not alone.

Third, I don't know about these other "feminist cunts" (so mature of you, really) you know, but I for one try to point it out and squee when they get it RIGHT, too, so we're not all just bitching.

It's a fallacy to suggest we should all shut up and go save the world if we're interested in discussing feminism in the context of fandom. (Though it WOULD be good to help women in Iran. But a bit... out of the scope of our abilities? I dunno, have you got any suggestions on where to start?)

Fourth, "as a guy" you're kind of making guys look like dipwads. :P

10. I've been kicking it with the Tenipuri fandom for awhile now, and I don't regret it. I love that it's not serious, and it's all about the gay tennis boy love. And certainly, other series have big, pretty plots are nice but they're not Tenipuri, and they never will be.

God, how many times do I have to stress this?

OPINION =/= FACT.

You can say, "I think cosplay is embarrassing." You cannot say, "Cosplay is embarrassing." At least you can't say it and be right. This has got to be one of my biggest pet peeves.

Though yes fandom is not real life and characters are not real people. I think most people in possession of both hemispheres do know that, actually. Link's hot - so what?
